Naruto and Sasuke’s rivalry has two defining duels: the first ends with Sasuke escaping, while the last ends in a physical draw and Naruto finally reaching him. The other three clashes are compelling because they expose how their bond changes, not because they produce clear winners. This ranking weighs emotional stakes, consequences for their relationship, and how decisively each encounter resolves; it is an editorial judgment, not an official ranking.
1. The final Valley of the End duel: a physical draw, Naruto’s emotional victory
After Team 7 seals Kaguya, Sasuke sets out to remake the shinobi world through revolution, including killing Naruto. Their last fight begins at the Valley of the End, where their earlier defining battle took place. The official episode listings establish that sequence: episode 694, “Congratulations”, covers Kaguya’s sealing, and episode 695, “The Final Valley”, sets up Sasuke’s plan and the clash.

This duel ranks first because it tests what the entire rivalry has been building toward: whether Naruto can stop Sasuke without giving up on him. They end severely injured and unable to continue, so neither wins by a knockout. But Naruto achieves his deeper aim: Sasuke abandons his plan and accepts the bond Naruto has kept reaching for. Call it a physical draw and an emotional, ideological victory for Naruto—not an uncontested win in every sense.
2. The first Valley of the End battle: Sasuke escapes
At the end of the original series’ defection storyline, Naruto fights to bring Sasuke home; Sasuke is determined to leave for Orochimaru and pursue the power he believes he needs to surpass Itachi. The official episode 129 listing, “Brothers: Distance Among the Uchiha,” establishes Sasuke’s decision and motive.

- brand: VIZ Media LLC
- manufacturer: Viz LLC
The immediate result is clear: Sasuke gets away, and Naruto cannot stop him. That makes Sasuke the tactical winner of this encounter. It does not mean he has settled their rivalry or erased their connection; the later Valley duel shows how unfinished the conflict remains.
3. The Shippuden reunion at Orochimaru’s hideout: no decisive winner
When Naruto and his former teammate meet again after the time skip, Naruto is still trying to pull Sasuke away from revenge. Their reunion matters for the contrast between Naruto’s hope and Sasuke’s resolve, but it is not a completed rematch. In the official episode 273 listing, Naruto fails to talk Sasuke out of revenge, and Orochimaru’s interference cuts short Yamato’s attempt to take him by force.
Rank #2
Because the encounter is interrupted, there is no established duel winner. Its place on this list comes from the painful change in their relationship: seeing Sasuke again does not bring him home, and Naruto’s determination has not yet changed Sasuke’s course.
4. The hospital rooftop exchange: rivalry before the break
Before Sasuke leaves, an early confrontation on the hospital rooftop gives the rivalry a sharper edge. Sasuke reacts to Naruto’s growing strength, and the encounter foreshadows how quickly competition between the two can become personal. The official episode 107 listing, “The Battle Begins: Naruto vs. Sasuke,” anchors this early rivalry, but its synopsis does not establish a decisive outcome for the exchange.

Rank #3
This is a notable clash for what it signals, not for a winner. It is interrupted before it can settle the question between them, and its importance lies in the tension that builds toward Sasuke’s departure and their first Valley fight.
5. “Collision”: a brief anime-original clash
The official Naruto site lists “Collision” as part of an anime-original arc. In the episode 666 listing, Naruto reaches the tower Sasuke is heading for, tries to reason with him, and their powers collide.
Rank #4
This belongs below the two Valley duels because it is a brief collision rather than a defining, fully resolved fight. The official summary does not establish a winner. It is worth including only with that scope made clear: this is anime-original material, not one of the manga’s defining duels.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read the results
- Clear tactical result: Sasuke escapes the first Valley fight.
- Physical draw, larger resolution: Neither can continue after the final Valley duel, but Naruto reaches Sasuke and stops his revolution.
- No decisive result: The Shippuden reunion, rooftop exchange, and anime-original “Collision” do not establish a winner in the official episode summaries.
For the original story, the official franchise overview credits Masashi Kishimoto with the manga’s story and art, published by Shueisha / Jump Comics: NARUTO official series overview. The ranked list includes anime-only material as well as the defining story confrontations, so readers who want manga-canon fights alone should set aside “Collision.”
