Naruto Shippuden has 500 episodes, and AnimeFillerList classifies 203 of them as filler, about 41% of the series. Skipping those 203 episodes leaves the manga-based storyline intact for most viewers, but it is not a clean cut. Mixed episodes sit between the two groups, and they need separate handling. The full filler ranges, the mixed-episode caveats, and the choice between a manga-focused and a completionist watch are set out below.
The complete filler range list
The ranges below come from AnimeFillerList’s Naruto Shippuden Filler List, which was last updated on September 3, 2024. They are the guide’s own classification, not a ruling from the franchise’s rights holders. The episode counts in the right-hand column are calculated from those ranges.

Because the ranges are contiguous blocks, a viewer can check any episode number against the table in seconds. The list does not name individual story arcs, so use episode numbers rather than arc titles when you check a guide.
Mixed episodes: why they should not go on the skip list
AnimeFillerList labels 64 episodes as mixed canon and filler. These episodes combine manga-based material with original content, so the guide places them in neither the filler group nor the manga-canon group. Siliconera, which publishes a filler arc guide, describes mixed episodes as more tightly woven into the main story than filler arcs are, which makes them harder to skip without losing canon material. The mixed episodes are:

If you skip only the filler ranges, you will still watch these 64 episodes. Treat them as canon by default and check the ones you are unsure about, as described in the steps further down.
Episode 28 and the anime-canon label
Episode 28 is the only episode AnimeFillerList marks as anime canon, meaning it is part of the main anime storyline but is not drawn from the manga. It is not on the filler list, so it stays in the watch order whichever approach you choose. The guide’s headline totals (203 filler, 233 manga-following, 64 mixed) already add up to 500, so episode 28 does not appear as a separate fourth count. Check its label on the guide directly if the distinction matters to you.
Rank #2
Why the guides disagree on the numbers
Two episode databases currently report the same totals. The table compares them.
| Source | Filler | Manga-following | Mixed | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AnimeFillerList, Naruto Shippuden Filler List (updated September 3, 2024) | 203 | 233 | 64 | Episode 28 labeled anime canon; ranges listed in the table above |
| NarutoHQ, Shippuden episode list (accessed October 8, 2026) | 203 | 233 | 64 | Episode-level labels and manga chapter mapping; Shippuden covers manga chapters 245–700 |
The agreement on totals is useful, but it does not mean the two guides always draw episode boundaries the same way. Siliconera notes that filler arcs can contain canon episodes, and canon arcs can contain filler. For that reason, judge each episode by its episode number and label, not by the name of the arc it sits in.

Rank #3
The official Naruto website lists Naruto Shippuden in its anime section, but it does not provide filler labels. The 41% figure is therefore a calculation from an independent episode guide’s count, not a statistic published by the franchise.
Choosing how to watch
The right approach depends on what you want from the series. Filler is not a quality ranking, and many viewers enjoy it for its own sake. The table sets out the three common approaches.
Rank #4
- Shrink-wrapped
| Goal | What to watch | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Fastest manga-focused route | Skip the 20 filler ranges; watch all 64 mixed episodes | You watch some episodes that contain filler content, so the route is shorter but not purely canon. |
| Careful manga-focused route | Skip filler ranges; check each mixed episode against NarutoHQ’s labels and chapter mapping before deciding | It takes more time and requires lookups, but it gives the most accurate canon-only result. |
| Completionist route | Watch all 500 episodes in order | You watch the guide’s 203 filler episodes, which are non-manga material, in exchange for the full broadcast run. |
Checking the list before you start
- Open AnimeFillerList’s Naruto Shippuden Filler List and note the “last updated” date, which was September 3, 2024 when this article was prepared.
- Compare each episode number you plan to skip against the filler ranges table above.
- For any of the 64 mixed episodes you are unsure about, open the same episode number in NarutoHQ’s Shippuden episode list and read its label and manga chapter mapping.
- Confirm streaming availability in your country. Siliconera reported Crunchyroll availability when it published its guide, but catalog rights change over time and differ by region, so that statement may no longer be current.
Filler labels can change when a guide updates its classifications, so the date on the guide matters as much as the range list itself.
