Sasuke’s strongest eye form is his Rinnegan, followed by the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, the Mangekyō Sharingan, and his developing Sharingan. This is an editorial ranking, not an official Naruto franchise order. It weighs demonstrated abilities, visual design, and importance to Sasuke’s story—and treats each as a distinct stage rather than counting every technique as a separate eye.
How Sasuke’s eyes develop
Sasuke’s eye states build on one another. His Sharingan develops during his early life and training; the Mangekyō Sharingan emerges after a major turning point involving Itachi; and the Eternal Mangekyō and Rinnegan follow later. These are evolutions in a continuing story, not unrelated powers.

The official Naruto site identifies NARUTO Vol. 45 as chapters 413–422 and says Sasuke “can now use the Mangekyo Sharingan in multiple ways.” The official description of Naruto: Shippuden episode 356, “The Light & Dark of the Mangekyo Sharingan,” says Itachi explains the Mangekyō’s secret and Uchiha history. Those official summaries establish the story context, but do not catalogue every ability or rank the forms.
Sasuke’s eye forms, ranked
1. Rinnegan
Why it ranks first: It is Sasuke’s most powerful eye state by demonstrated range of abilities and its role in the story. After receiving power from Hagoromo, Sasuke awakens a distinctive Rinnegan in his left eye. Its six-tomoe design combines the Rinnegan’s ripple pattern with markings associated with his earlier Sharingan forms.

In the story, this eye gives Sasuke access to abilities beyond his Mangekyō techniques, including space-time movement and the ability to switch positions with a target. It also retains access to techniques tied to his Mangekyō, including Amaterasu and Kagutsuchi. That combination makes the Rinnegan an endpoint of his eye progression, rather than simply another version of the Sharingan.
Visual and narrative case: The design is immediately recognizable, and its arrival marks Sasuke’s involvement in the final conflict on a scale beyond his earlier battles. Its power does not make it an official “number one”: Naruto’s official pages describe story events, not a ranked power chart.
2. Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan
Why it ranks second: The Eternal Mangekyō is Sasuke’s evolved Mangekyō state, awakened after he receives Itachi’s eyes. It preserves the Mangekyō’s distinctive pattern while incorporating elements of Itachi’s design. It is the strongest of Sasuke’s Sharingan-only stages in this ranking.
Rank #2
The Eternal Mangekyō supports Sasuke’s continued use of his Mangekyō abilities and his Susanoo. It is therefore a major increase in the power he can bring to a fight, though it does not provide the wider range of abilities associated with his later Rinnegan.

Visual and narrative case: Its layered pattern makes the design more complex than the Mangekyō that came before it. More importantly, the change is bound up with Sasuke’s relationship to Itachi and the aftermath of their conflict. It is not a wholly separate set of eyes in the same way a new power category might be; it is an evolution of the Mangekyō.
3. Mangekyō Sharingan
Why it ranks third: Sasuke’s Mangekyō unlocks powerful, distinctive techniques, but it sits below the Eternal Mangekyō and Rinnegan in this comparison. Sasuke uses Amaterasu to produce black flames and Kagutsuchi to shape or control those flames. He also manifests Susanoo, a powerful protective and offensive avatar associated with the Mangekyō.
Rank #3
Visual and narrative case: Sasuke’s Mangekyō has a sharp, pinwheel-like pattern that stands apart from his earlier tomoe Sharingan. Its awakening is also one of the story’s major turns: Sasuke’s understanding of Itachi and the Uchiha history changes, and the eye signals his new direction. The official episode description for “The Light & Dark of the Mangekyo Sharingan” specifically centers Itachi’s explanation of the eye’s secret and Uchiha history.
The techniques listed here are Sasuke’s demonstrated abilities, not a claim that every Mangekyō user has the same powers. The official Volume 45 summary confirms that Sasuke can use the Mangekyō in multiple ways, while secondary reference summaries provide more detail about the named techniques.

4. Developing Sharingan
Why it ranks fourth: Sasuke’s developing Sharingan is the foundation for all the later forms, but it has a narrower demonstrated toolkit than his evolved eyes. It progresses through tomoe stages as Sasuke gains experience and emotional intensity; the eye enhances his ability to perceive movement and read an opponent’s actions.
Rank #4
Visual and narrative case: Its red iris and black tomoe are the basic visual signature of the Uchiha Sharingan. The stages of its development make Sasuke’s growth visible, but the developing form does not have the high-impact techniques or broader abilities that define his later eyes.

The Mangekyō Sharingan is an advanced Sharingan state with Sasuke-specific techniques such as Amaterasu and Kagutsuchi, as well as access to Susanoo. His Rinnegan is a later eye state with a different visual pattern and additional abilities, including space-time techniques. Sasuke’s Rinnegan also retains access to some of his Mangekyō-associated powers, so the distinction is not that the old abilities simply disappear.
In short, the Mangekyō is a powerful Sharingan evolution; the Rinnegan is a later, broader power state. The Eternal Mangekyō sits between them in Sasuke’s progression, strengthening his Mangekyō stage without making it a Rinnegan.

Why this ranking is editorial, not official
The official Naruto pages establish the Mangekyō’s place in Sasuke’s story and the relevant manga volume, but they do not publish a ranking of his eye forms or a complete guide to their mechanics. The ordering here uses three criteria: demonstrated abilities, visual design, and narrative significance. A ranking focused only on emotional importance might place the Mangekyō first; one focused on breadth of demonstrated powers puts the Rinnegan at the top.
For the story’s primary source, the official Naruto site lists NARUTO Vol. 45 as covering chapters 413–422. Its synopsis highlights Sasuke’s Mangekyō use, while the official episode pages for Naruto episode 131 and Naruto: Shippuden episode 356 provide context for the Mangekyō and Uchiha history. More detailed ability summaries appear in secondary reference material and are best checked against the manga or anime scenes themselves.
