Reports at the time said Roberts was 99 and Granny Watts was 101 and a half. This is a retrospective account of the 2024 news, not a new 2026 report.
What happened
PerthNow and 7NEWS reported on November 26, 2024, that Watts’s paternal grandmother had died. PerthNow said she was 101 and a half. Watts’s tribute, as reproduced by the outlet, said her grandmother had received a letter from the King to mark her 100th birthday and had died the previous night. PerthNow’s November 26, 2024 report and 7NEWS’s report that day both described the loss.
How the two family losses were related
The earlier death was Watts’s maternal grandmother, Nikki Roberts. PerthNow reported in August 2024 that Roberts had died aged 99 after suffering a severe stroke. The November loss was Watts’s paternal grandmother, referred to as “Granny Watts.” The outlets described the second death as coming about three months after the first; that is an approximate interval, not a precise count of elapsed days.
What Watts said about her grandmothers
PerthNow reproduced Watts’s tribute to her paternal grandmother: “Our Granny Watts made it to 101 and a half… she got her letter from the King to celebrate her century, last night she rested easy. RIP.”
