Naomi Scott described the hospital-bed sequence in Smile 2 as one of the hardest scenes she had shot—and her favorite to film. But when asked which scene she would least like to relive, she named the freezer material. The answers point to different kinds of difficulty: a demanding continuous take versus several punishing days of filming.
Why the hospital-bed sequence was so challenging
In an Oxford Union interview published January 15, 2026, Scott recalled filming a continuous, choreographed passage in which her character, Skye, scrambles out of bed and reaches the door. Someone opens it and hands her a blood-covered glass shard. The camera reveals the shard, follows Scott as Skye realizes what she has done, and continues as she reaches her mother, slaps herself and breaks down. Scott also described hyperventilating during the scene.

The challenge was the combination: camera movement and focus had to stay coordinated with Scott’s physical actions, the prop handoff and the blood effects, while the emotional performance unfolded without a break. Scott credited the camera operator and focus puller as essential to making the sequence work. She said the team got the take on the first attempt after a small issue was addressed in post. Because the blood effects were involved, she said, the scene could not simply be reset casually.

Why Scott also named the freezer
In a separate 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Scott was asked which scene she would least like to relive. She answered “the freezer,” describing that material as “the hardest four days of my life.” That is a different measure from the hospital scene: the freezer work was the toughest sustained filming experience she identified, while the hospital sequence was a technically demanding scene she enjoyed making.

Preparation for the performance
Scott said she had about three weeks to prepare for Smile 2, including studio song recording and dance rehearsals. She described approaching the film’s sustained on-camera demands like athletic training, with much of the shoot involving screaming or crying. The account gives context for the physical and emotional demands of the role, but Scott did not specify a particular training regimen.
