The season premiered on Discovery Channel on July 30, 2023, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.
What is different about Naked and Afraid: Castaways?
The central twist is the starting point: instead of relying on their usual carried survival tools, the challengers begin without maps, knives, pots or fire starters. Warner Bros. Discovery describes the setup this way: “Nine challengers are abandoned at a remote tropical island, with no maps or tools, miles away from civilization.”
They are divided into teams of three and face three island environments: a beach, a mangrove swamp and jungle. To meet basic needs, they have to navigate and turn debris into useful supplies. The network’s premise identifies a shipwreck, an abandoned military jeep and a crashed airplane as potential sources of salvage.
What happens in the opening episode?
“Lord of the Sand Flies”
The opening episode focuses on scavenging wreckage, dealing with insect bites and responding to a predator threat. Apple TV’s episode description also says Bulent secures fire and food. That episode listing gives a useful sense of the season’s early pressures: locating useful materials is only part of the challenge; the castaways also have to contend with the island itself.
