Spoilers for manga Chapters 423–424 and the anime finale. The final Deku–Shigaraki confrontation can feel underwhelming if a climactic shonen fight is judged mainly by tactical exchanges and escalating spectacle. Its strongest payoff is elsewhere: Deku tries to reach the person inside his enemy, and the aftermath turns victory into a question of what society does next. Calling it “the most boring battle” is a defensible reaction, not an established consensus.

What happens in the final confrontation?

Chapter 423 brings the decisive confrontation with the merged All For One and Shigaraki to its climax. Coverage of the chapter describes Deku’s final attack and the involvement of One For All’s vestiges in the decisive spiritual struggle. All For One is defeated, and Deku is left with a final exchange with Shigaraki. ComicBook.com’s Chapter 423 coverage recounts the battle’s conclusion and the shift from the fight itself to Shigaraki’s last words.

Shigaraki asks Deku to tell Spinner that he kept fighting to destroy to the very end. That request gives the ending a personal and uneasy note: Deku has not simply won a contest of strength, and Shigaraki is not reduced to a generic defeated villain. The moment does not erase what Shigaraki did; it lets him state what he wants remembered.

Why can the fight feel boring?

It may not deliver the kind of combat climax readers expect

A final battle often promises a clear succession of tactical reversals: one fighter adapts, the other answers, and each exchange changes the odds. If that is the standard, a confrontation whose emphasis shifts toward an inner, emotional struggle can feel less vivid as combat. The central question becomes whether Deku can reach Shigaraki, not simply which move will overpower the other.

That distinction is an interpretation of the finale, not a measurable verdict on its choreography. The available reader discussions show disagreement rather than a reliable measure of how fans broadly feel. One Reddit discussion asks why people were “underwhelmed with the finale fight with deku and shiggy”; another asks for thoughts on the finale after nearly a year. Those posts capture informal reactions, not representative polling. One discussion and another make the divide visible without settling it.

The rivalry is complicated by the story’s larger conflict

The title suggests a clean duel between Deku and Shigaraki, but the climax also involves All For One and the One For All vestiges. That broader conflict can make the final encounter feel less like a straightforward personal contest. Whether the late role of All For One strengthens or interrupts the payoff depends on what a reader wants the climax to prioritize: the saga’s larger villain conflict, or the direct relationship between Deku and Shigaraki.

What the ending prioritizes instead

Deku’s goal is more than stopping Shigaraki

The emotional objective is distinct from the physical one. Deku has to defeat the threat, but the final exchange gives weight to his effort to understand and reach Shigaraki. Readers who value character resolution may find that more satisfying than a longer sequence of changing attacks; readers chiefly seeking a decisive, extended duel may find it an inadequate substitute for one.

Chapter 424 turns victory toward responsibility

The next chapter moves beyond the climactic fighting. In its reported final thought, Shigaraki points toward the future and what people choose to do next. The aftermath therefore treats victory as a beginning for survivors and society, not a simple victory lap. That shift helps explain why the manga continues after the fight: the story has consequences to follow through on.

In a June 2, 2024 report on the Chapter 424 author’s note, ComicBook.com quoted Kohei Horikoshi explaining: “Writing conventions say that the conclusion of a story should be short, but this is not the type of manga that can immediately end after the fighting is over. I’ll keep going for a little while longer. We’re going back to the title,” Horikoshi shared. The report also covers Shigaraki’s final words.

How the anime handles the finale

The official Japanese anime site lists episode 168 as “Epilogue / The Todoroki Family: Hellish Hell FINAL,” dated November 29, 2025. Its synopsis describes Deku defeating All For One with support from Class 1-A, heroes, and people around the world; exchanging words with Shigaraki and receiving a message; and then moving into recovery, rebuilding, and the Todoroki family’s confrontation with Touya. See the official episode listing. This is the anime’s final episode, not a one-episode adaptation of Chapter 423 alone: the official synopsis includes both the victory and the aftermath. The title and availability may differ in localized releases.

Is “the most boring battle” a fair verdict?

It is fair as a personal judgment if the fight’s action does not meet your expectations for a final shonen showdown. It is less persuasive as a claim about what the story is trying to do. The climax spends its decisive weight on defeating All For One, reaching Shigaraki, and leaving the characters—and readers—with the question of what comes after violence. Its action and emotional resolution can be judged separately: the former may disappoint without making the latter meaningless.
