Izuku Midoriya, known as Deku, is the central viewpoint character in My Hero Academia: a student pursuing his ambition to become a hero. The story’s cast is easiest to follow in four groups—U.A. students, professional heroes and teachers, villains, and supporting characters. This guide focuses on the main series’ principal and notable characters, not every named figure across films, games, and spin-offs. VIZ’s series catalog lists related manga separately.
Spoiler note: The guide identifies the main groups and relationships without detailing late-story identities, final battles, or epilogue outcomes. The ending section is explicitly marked for spoilers.
Who are the main characters in My Hero Academia?
The central cast follows students at U.A. High School as they train for hero work, alongside the professional heroes who teach or work in the field and the villains opposing them. Izuku Midoriya anchors the story; his classmates provide its core ensemble. The official Bandai Namco character roster names students, professional heroes, and major villains, and includes characters from across the full story.

Who is in Class 1-A?
Class 1-A is the wider student ensemble around Midoriya. The official roster names a broader group than the five central students above. These notable classmates help readers recognize the class without treating this guide as an exhaustive list of every student or character in the franchise.
- Tsuyu Asui — a member of the central student ensemble.
- Denki Kaminari — one of Midoriya’s classmates.
- Eijiro Kirishima — one of the prominent students in Class 1-A.
- Kyoka Jiro — a member of the class ensemble.
- Momo Yaoyorozu — one of the notable students in Class 1-A.
Other classmates appear across the story and in official franchise materials. The names here emphasize characters useful for following the main cast, rather than claiming to list every Class 1-A student.

Who are the teachers and professional heroes?
U.A.’s teachers and working heroes form a distinct group from the students: they train, guide, or operate alongside the next generation. All Might is central to the relationship between professional heroism and Midoriya’s ambitions. The official game roster also identifies professional heroes including Mirko and Best Jeanist.
The role of this group extends beyond a list of names. Teachers connect the students’ school training to the wider hero profession, while working heroes show what that profession looks like outside U.A. The official roster draws from across the full story, so character versions or affiliations shown there may reflect later developments.

The principal antagonists are best considered separately from the heroes and students. The official roster names All For One, Shigaraki, and Dabi among the villains. Their place in the conflict develops across the main series, so readers avoiding late-story spoilers should stop here rather than consult full-story character rosters or descriptions of final versions.

How the main series differs from the spin-offs
This guide covers the principal and notable supporting cast of the main My Hero Academia story. VIZ lists Vigilantes, Smash!!, and Team-Up Missions as related works, rather than as the main series. Characters and events from those works should therefore be treated as related-series material, not automatically folded into a main-series cast list.
Where to find a fuller character reference
For profiles and supplementary reference material, VIZ’s My Hero Academia: Ultra Analysis—The Official Character Guide is a direct companion. VIZ describes this 288-page paperback by Kohei Horikoshi as including character profiles, stats, trivia, a color art gallery, sketches, and an author discussion. The publisher lists ISBN 978-1-9747-2447-5.

Readers looking for the manga’s ending rather than a reference book should note that VIZ identifies Volume 42 as the final collected volume. Its product listing gives an October 21, 2025 release date, paperback and digital formats, and ISBN 978-1-9747-5918-7. VIZ describes it as following the outcome of the final conflict and addressing the fate of U.A. students and staff. Spoilers: this volume covers the conclusion, so it is not a spoiler-safe character reference.
VIZ also lists a box set covering volumes 1–20 for readers beginning a physical collection; it is a starting portion of the manga, not a complete-series set. Check the publisher’s product listings for current format and availability information.
