In this review’s view, the film’s elite Delhi-club setting gives its comedy and secrets a polished backdrop, but the story’s pleasures remain fairly shallow. The 2024 Hindi-language film is streaming on Netflix, which adapted it from Anuja Chauhan’s novel Club You To Death.
What is Murder Mubarak about?
A gym trainer is murdered at an elite Delhi club, and a wily investigator looks into the club’s wealthy members to find the killer. That is the setup in Netflix’s official synopsis. The club supplies a closed social world of privilege and secrets, while the group of suspects gives the film its ensemble-mystery structure.
The premise has familiar whodunit appeal: an investigator, a murder, and a circle of people with reasons to hide things. The setting adds surface glamour and a comic contrast between the club’s polished image and the secrets beneath it. But the review’s central reservation is that this material does not develop into a particularly deep mystery.
Is Murder Mubarak worth watching?
It can be an easygoing choice for viewers in the mood for a stylish, comic mystery rather than a demanding puzzle. The directly matched review describes it as “shallow fun”: a qualified compliment, not a claim that every viewer will find the film satisfying. Its appeal lies more in the club setting, the large cast and the mix of secrets and comedy than in an especially substantial investigation.

The trade-off is in the depth. The review finds the film’s mystery and characterization limited, so the privileged setting and collection of suspects do not necessarily translate into a gripping or emotionally rich whodunit. If a mystery’s success for you depends on a carefully engaging central puzzle and sharply developed suspects, that is the key reason to temper expectations.
What does the review say about the adaptation?
Murder Mubarak adapts Anuja Chauhan’s novel Club You To Death. Netflix identifies the film as a book-to-screen adaptation, and Scroll’s review says it remains mostly faithful to Chauhan’s comic, Agatha Christie-inflected approach. The adaptation is credited to Gazal Dhaliwal and Suprotim Sengupta.

That faithfulness helps preserve the source’s playful mystery tone, but it does not make the film a more penetrating investigation. Readers curious about the novel can find Anuja Chauhan’s Club You To Death; it is the book behind the film, not another version of the movie.

Netflix’s release announcement also names Suhail Nayyar. The ensemble is one of the film’s clear attractions, though the review’s reservations about characterization mean that a large cast should not be mistaken for equal depth for every character.
