Beast Industries, the company associated with YouTube creator MrBeast, announced on February 9, 2026, that it had acquired Step, a fintech company offering app-based financial tools and financial-literacy resources. Step is not a bank: its banking services are provided by Evolve Bank & Trust. The companies say they aim to combine Step’s platform with Beast Industries’ audience and philanthropic initiatives, but have not disclosed the purchase price or detailed post-acquisition operating changes.
What the acquisition means
Step’s February 9, 2026 announcement said Beast Industries acquired the company. Step describes its focus as making financial literacy and money management more accessible. Beast Industries framed the deal as a way to bring Step’s technology and fintech team together with its audience reach to expand financial-wellness offerings.
That is the companies’ stated strategy, not evidence that the acquisition has already improved customers’ financial outcomes. Step founder and CEO CJ MacDonald said the deal would amplify the platform and bring new products to customers. Step’s company page also identifies it as acquired by Beast Industries in 2026.
What Step offers—and why it is not a bank
Step describes app features for building credit, investing, saving and managing money. Its legal disclosure says: “Step is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Evolve Bank & Trust, Member FDIC.” The Step Visa Card is issued by Evolve under a Visa license. Beast Industries acquired the fintech company, not a bank.

Step’s product disclosures also set limits on what users should infer from those features:
- Credit building: The feature depends on account standing and reporting to credit bureaus. Step says a user’s wider credit history and score may also be affected by activity outside the Step card; it does not guarantee a score increase.
- Savings: Step describes its savings percentage as cash rewards, not interest. The percentage is variable and may change.
- Investing: Investments can lose value and are not FDIC insured.
These distinctions matter: banking services supplied by an FDIC-member bank do not make every feature or product in a fintech app a bank deposit or guarantee.

What MrBeast and the companies said
Beast Industries CEO Jeff Housenbold described the company’s goal as reaching audiences with practical financial tools: “This acquisition positions us to meet our audiences where they are, with practical, technology-driven solutions that can transform their financial futures for the better.” That is an expression of intent, not a reported result.

MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), in a statement quoted by TechCrunch, linked the deal to his own experience: “Nobody taught me about investing, building credit, or managing money when I was growing up.” He added: “I want to give millions of young people the financial foundation I never had.” Step CEO and founder CJ MacDonald said: “We’re excited about how this acquisition is going to amplify our platform and bring more groundbreaking products to Step customers.”

The acquisition announcement and TechCrunch’s February 9, 2026 report do not state a purchase price. The reviewed public sources also do not specify whether Step’s management, staffing or product roadmap changed after the acquisition. That leaves the deal’s financial terms and its practical effect on how Step operates unclear.
