Etta James’s “At Last” topped a reported 2024 ranking of first-dance songs, appearing on 46 Spotify playlists labeled “First Dance.” The ranking was based on a third-party count of playlist appearances—not a poll by Spotify or a survey of all couples—so it is best read as a source of song ideas, not a universal measure of wedding choices.

Most popular first-dance songs in the Spotify-playlist ranking

County Weddings reported that Diamonds Factory analyzed more than 350 Spotify “First Dance” playlists and 12,000 tracks, ranking songs by how often they appeared. The counts below are playlist appearances as reported by County Weddings; songs with the same count are shown as ties.

Playlist appearances Song Artist
46 “At Last” Etta James
44 “Thinking Out Loud” Ed Sheeran
44 “All of Me” John Legend
42 “A Thousand Years” Christina Perri
41 “Everything” Michael Bublé
41 “Can’t Help Falling in Love” Elvis Presley
38 “Better Together” Jack Johnson
36 “Perfect” Ed Sheeran
36 “Can’t Help Falling in Love” Haley Reinhart
36 “Let’s Stay Together” Al Green
36 “Stand By Me” Ben E. King
34 “Baby I’m Yours” Arctic Monkeys
33 “Make You Feel My Love” Adele
33 “Marry Me” Train
32 “Say You Won’t Let Go” James Arthur
32 “Marry You” Bruno Mars

The original article’s displayed rank labels do not align consistently with its counts in places. The table orders tracks by the reported appearance totals and treats equal totals as ties rather than repeating or skipping ordinal labels. Performer names matter: Elvis Presley’s and Haley Reinhart’s recordings of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” for example, are separate entries.

What the Spotify playlist count does—and does not—measure

The count reflects how often tracks appeared in a sample of Spotify playlists labeled for first dances. It is not a ranking of total Spotify streams, an official Spotify chart, a poll of couples, or a count of songs actually played at weddings. County Weddings attributes the analysis to Diamonds Factory; the playlist dataset and a full methodology report were not available in the reporting reviewed here.

The report does not state the playlists’ geographic coverage, the dates they covered, how they were selected, or how duplicate tracks or versions were handled. Those gaps mean the result should not be treated as representative of all couples or as proof that a song was chosen for a particular reason.

Why other 2024 first-dance lists name different leaders

Other wedding lists published for 2024 draw on different sources and populations, so their results are useful comparisons—not a single combined ranking.

Publisher and list Reported method or audience Leading entries
County Weddings, reporting Diamonds Factory’s Spotify-playlist analysis More than 350 playlists labeled “First Dance”; 12,000 tracks analyzed. Playlist geography and date range are not stated in the article. “At Last” by Etta James, with 46 playlist appearances.
The Knot, 2024 wedding report Wedding report; the inspected source does not state a comparable playlist-count method. “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley; “Joy of My Life” by Chris Stapleton; “Life With You” by Kelsey Hart; “At Last” by Etta James; “Lover” by Taylor Swift.
Bridebook, 2024 list Feedback from more than 3,500 engaged couples planning weddings for 2024. “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley; “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran; “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King. “At Last” appears tenth.
Hitched, 2024 first-dance top ten Its National Wedding Survey analyzed more than 3,000 couples who married in 2024. The published top ten includes “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “At Last,” “Perfect,” “Amazed,” and “Baby I’m Yours.”

The comparison shows why “most popular” needs a method attached to it: playlist appearances and couple feedback measure different things. The Knot’s report details, including a directly comparable sample size or survey method, are not stated in the inspected article, so its ranking should not be read as methodologically equivalent to the other lists.

How to use the rankings when choosing your song

A chart can help build a shortlist, but it cannot decide which song fits a particular couple. Consider whether the lyrics and emotional associations feel right to you, whether the song carries cultural or personal significance, and whether its instrumentation suits the kind of moment you want. Bridebook also points readers toward artist diversity and memorable instrumentation as considerations.

Once you have a shortlist, listen to the exact recording you plan to use. Songs with the same title can have very different performers and arrangements, as the two “Can’t Help Falling in Love” entries illustrate. If a band or DJ will perform or play the track, confirm the version and practical arrangement with them; Hitched also presents its list as a reference for couples choosing music for a band or DJ.
