Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is a multi-version archive of early Mortal Kombat games, paired with an interactive documentary—not a single remake. Online features arrived in stages after launch, and Digital Eclipse announced cross-platform play and selected online 2v2 on April 28, 2026. What you can play and how you can play it depend on the game version and platform.
What games are in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection?
The collection brings together arcade, console, and handheld releases from the series’ early years. It includes arcade classics alongside home conversions and less common editions; it is not one standardized version of each game. Digital Eclipse’s launch FAQ identifies these arcade and console versions:
- Mortal Kombat
- Mortal Kombat II
- Mortal Kombat 3
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, including the WaveNet arcade version
- Mortal Kombat Trilogy for PlayStation
- Mortal Kombat 4 arcade
The FAQ says versions vary by platform. In particular, the original Nintendo Switch release does not include Mortal Kombat 4. The list above is not a guarantee that every version is present on every system.
What does the documentary package include?
The games are only part of the collection. Digital Eclipse presents an interactive documentary with interviews with original developers, character histories, and a timeline of the original story. It also includes archival material such as concept art, vintage marketing, and video. That makes the package useful as a record of how the early games were made and presented, as well as a way to play them. See the official collection overview for the developer’s description.

Is Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection online?
Yes, but online support is not universal across the collection. The launch plan included rollback online play and a later Online Arcade feature for public and private rooms. Digital Eclipse subsequently published Online Arcade availability information and updates. One update added room codes for private lobbies and filters for connection strength, along with gameplay, performance, and other fixes; the developer’s update notes describe those changes.
Handheld entries are an exception: the launch FAQ says they do not support online play because their original multiplayer relied on physical link cables, whose behavior was difficult to reproduce reliably online. Online support should therefore be understood by specific game version, not as a feature that applies to every title in the bundle.

Crossplay arrived in an April 2026 update
In an update dated April 28, 2026, Digital Eclipse announced cross-platform online play connecting PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC players in online lobbies or Quick Play. The developer’s stated exception is Mortal Kombat Trilogy: its original Nintendo Switch version cannot be played in online crossplay. The update is documented in the developer’s crossplay announcement.

That list is narrower than the crossplay platform list: crossplay availability does not mean every game has online 2v2.

Digital Eclipse lists PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. PlayStation and Xbox list October 30, 2025 as the release date. Check the store listing for the platform and edition you intend to buy, since game versions and features differ. The PlayStation listing and Xbox listing provide their respective platform details.

Digital Eclipse’s April 2026 update also lists variable refresh rate (VRR) support for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, Switch 2 handheld mode, and PC. This is a device-specific feature, not a claim that every console in a family supports it. The available information does not establish a comparative performance ranking among platforms.

What to check before choosing a platform
- Game selection: Compare the platform-specific version list; the original Switch version omits arcade Mortal Kombat 4.
- Online play: Check the exact game version. Handheld entries do not support online play, and online 2v2 is limited to the four versions listed above.
- Crossplay: Digital Eclipse says crossplay connects PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC, with the original Switch version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy excluded from crossplay.
- VRR: Confirm the device is among those named in the developer’s update; Switch 2 support is specifically for handheld mode.
- Xbox console multiplayer: The Xbox store listing says online multiplayer on console requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. Check the current listing for subscription terms and availability.
