His 2017 acknowledgement of sexual misconduct
Spurlock’s legacy also includes his public acknowledgement of past sexual misconduct. In a 2017 open letter, he said he had been accused of rape while in college, had settled a sexual-harassment claim brought by a female assistant, and had been unfaithful in relationships. The Associated Press reported these statements; the accusation should not be read as a judicial finding.
Spurlock wrote, “I am part of the problem.” The Los Angeles Times also reported on his statement and the settled harassment claim.
