In a January 24, 2024 report, Us Weekly quoted her saying that leaving would have been a decision by the cast and Bravo, not hers. The statement came after news surfaced that she would not return for season 5, amid the fallout from the season 4 finale and reunion.
What Monica Garcia said about leaving RHOSLC
Garcia’s remark was an answer to a hypothetical question, not a detailed account of private casting discussions. As Us Weekly reported, quoting her interview with The Cut, she said: “That would be a cast and Bravo decision. It would not have been my decision.” The report of her season 5 non-return had already surfaced the previous day.
That distinction matters: Garcia publicly said she would not have chosen to leave, but her statement alone does not verify how private casting deliberations unfolded.
Why her season 5 return was in doubt
The Reality Von Tease reveal
The season 4 finale, which aired January 2, 2024, brought the Reality Von Tease account dispute into the open. Heather Gay confronted Garcia about the account during the Bermuda storyline. The finale’s revelations and the subsequent reunion became the immediate context for the season 5 decision.

At the January 23 reunion, Bravo’s official recap said Garcia described herself as “part of that page.” She said she did not set up, name, or open the account, while acknowledging that she posted and disputing that she was responsible for every post. These are Garcia’s statements as recounted in Bravo’s recap, not independent findings about the account.
Cast members described damaged trust
The reunion recap also described cast members’ difficulty trusting Garcia and moving forward. Heather Gay said the reunion had not resolved matters for her, while Meredith Marks described trust as “completely decimated.” Those reactions help explain the public context for Garcia’s non-return, but do not establish the details of any private casting decision.

How Bravo-side figures explained the pause
Public comments from Bravo-side figures used the language of a break and a cooling-off period. Andy Cohen described Garcia as taking a “break.” Showrunner Lori Gordon told Variety, as quoted by the Los Angeles Times, “The women just need a cooling off period, and I think it’s just too soon.” Cohen also said the group had discussed letting the situation breathe.
The Times reported that Cohen said Garcia’s return could have been possible if she had made amends with castmates, but that she did not. Taken together, these comments describe a public rationale centered on timing and the cast’s unresolved conflict—not a documented account of contractual terms or private negotiations.

Garcia said she wanted filming to continue
In a January 29, 2024 interview with Pride, Garcia said she wanted the cast to keep filming after the reunion so they could work toward resolving the conflict. She viewed the situation as something that could be fixed. That was her position; the cast’s reunion comments showed that others did not share her confidence in moving forward at that point.

The contemporaneous reporting establishes that Garcia was not returning for season 5 and that the decision was publicly framed as a break or cooling-off period. It does not establish her current casting status, whether a later return has been arranged, or the private terms behind the season 5 decision.

The clearest account is therefore limited but direct: Garcia said leaving was not her choice, while Bravo-side explanations pointed to the cast’s need for time after the Reality Von Tease dispute. Those are separate public accounts, not independently verified descriptions of the same private decision.
