Yes—some Monarch cast members sing their parts. The production recorded cast vocals in Atlanta, but it also used Nashville background singers and separately recorded instrumental scoring, so not every voice or musical sound heard on the series can be assumed to come from the actor on screen.
Which cast performances are identified?
The available reporting names several examples, rather than a complete list of every singer in every episode:
- Anna Friel performs “American Cowgirl,” a song discussed by creator Melissa London Hilfers. Television Academy and Fox News identify the performance.
- Trace Adkins sings “Good Hearted Woman,” according to Fox News.
- The Monarch cast performs “The Brambles,” as credited by Fox News.
- Caitlyn Smith recorded the theme song, “The Card You Gamble,” according to executive producer Jason Owen in a MusicRow interview.
These are sourced examples, not a full episode-by-episode vocal-credit ledger.
How was the music recorded?
Executive music producer Adam Anders said cast vocals were recorded in Atlanta, while instrumental scoring sessions took place in Nashville. He described a process of choosing songs for characters, building vocal and instrumental arrangements, and working with producing partner Peer Astrom on cast recording sessions. Television Academy

MusicRow’s interview adds another layer: songs were tracked in Nashville, with background vocals performed by Nashville singers. The production therefore combined cast recordings with other performers and studio work; the reporting does not establish that every vocal heard belongs to the actor shown in the scene. MusicRow
Are the songs originals or covers?
Both. Anders said episodes usually featured one original song when the schedule and story allowed, along with several covers. The creator discussed pilot covers including “Family Tradition” and “How Do I Live,” as well as original songs “American Cowgirl” and “The Rose and the Brambles.” Television Academy

Song choices were shaped by the drama rather than being interchangeable musical breaks. Anders put it this way: “The scene dictates what we do creatively. Country music is very specific lyrically, so that helps narrow down what songs you use.” Television Academy
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does that mean the cast sang live on set?
No such blanket conclusion follows from the production accounts. They establish that cast vocals were recorded for the series, not that actors sang every part live while filming each scene. They also do not rule out other singers or establish whether a particular moment uses a cast recording, a background vocalist, or another arrangement. Television Academy; MusicRow
