The Gundam theatrical release in this headline was Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, a re-edit of selected episodes from the GQuuuuuuX TV series. Its announced 2025 Japan and North American openings have passed; the cited sources do not establish current theater showtimes.
What was the Gundam theater release?
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- was a theatrical presentation made from selected episodes of the new GQuuuuuuX series. In its December 4, 2024 announcement, GUNDAM.INFO described the material as restructured for theatrical screening ahead of the TV series and named Studio Khara and Sunrise as collaborators on GQuuuuuuX. GUNDAM.INFO’s announcement gives the Japanese release plan.
When did it open in Japan and North America?
Japan
GUNDAM.INFO announced a Japanese opening on January 17, 2025, in 373 theaters. That figure was the planned number of theaters, not an audience or box-office statistic.
North America
A January 18, 2025 report by Gizmodo said GKIDS had acquired North American theatrical rights and reported an opening date of February 28, 2025. These are separate territory-specific release dates, and both are now past.

How did the theatrical release relate to the TV series?
The film presentation preceded the series’ Japanese TV broadcast, which began April 8, 2025. GUNDAM.INFO’s series page also lists domestic Prime Video streaming from April 9, 2025, and currently says the series is available on Prime Video and other streaming services. That information does not establish availability in a particular territory in 2026.
Can you still see it in theaters?
The cited release announcements establish the planned 2025 openings, not current showtimes or ticket availability. They also do not settle the film’s runtime or whether screenings included an English dub; those details were unclear in Gizmodo’s report when it was published. Check local listings for any current screening information.
