After a tornado disrupts the family, she takes on more responsibility at home; as the season continues, she still tests limits. Then George’s death leaves her angry and grieving, with the finale pointing toward a difficult road ahead rather than suggesting that her loss has been resolved.
Why does Missy change after the tornado?
Season 7 opens with the Cooper household unsettled: Mary is away with Sheldon, Meemaw’s house has been destroyed, and relatives are crowded into the family home. In that disruption, Missy takes on more responsibility. Executive producer Steve Holland connected the shift to a significant moment between Missy and her father, saying it felt as though she had “turned a little bit of a corner” after the tornado and that moment with George. TVLine’s February 15, 2024 interview with Holland describes the writers’ intent.

The change is a new shade of Missy, not a replacement personality. Holland emphasized that “she’s still a 13-year-old girl.” By the second episode, she is finding out that acting like the mother of the house is harder—and less appealing—than she had imagined.
Does Missy become responsible for good?
No. The season lets responsibility and adolescence exist at the same time. Missy steps up when her family needs her, but later keeps a new friend from George and throws a party at Billy Sparks’ house. Those choices do not cancel out her capability; they show that taking on more at home has not made her stop wanting freedom, attention, or fun. The episode summaries and dates are listed in the Season 7 episode guide.

How does George’s death change the stakes?
In Episode 12, “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture,” the Coopers consider a possible move to Houston after George receives a coaching offer from Rice University. The episode ends with the family learning that George has died. Showrunner Steve Holland said the writers placed the reveal at the end of the episode partly to catch viewers off guard; TheWrap’s interview with Holland discusses the decision and its framing.
The following episode, titled “Funeral,” centers on the family mourning George. Raegan Revord, who plays Missy, said filming the discovery of his death was emotionally difficult: “I was weeping; I could barely say my lines.” Her account and the episode’s emotional framing appear in TVLine’s May 15, 2024 cast interview.

Why is Missy angry in the finale?
Missy’s grief does not look like everyone else’s. Holland described her as “obviously angry” and grieving. Revord offered a reason the loss may hit Missy especially hard: she said Missy often felt overlooked because of her twin, and George was “the one person who paid her attention.” That context helps explain her anger without reducing her response—or her later choices—to a single cause. TVLine’s May 16, 2024 finale interview with Holland and Revord discusses the ending.

The final episode, “Memoir,” leaves the family coping with George’s death as Sheldon prepares to leave for California. Holland said the ending hints at the difficult path Missy is known to take after George’s death in The Big Bang Theory, while avoiding a wholly bleak note. It foreshadows a harder stretch; it does not show that Missy is irreparably broken or that grief has run its course.

That distinction is central to her Season 7 evolution: the tornado prompts a pressured, partial shift in her role at home, while George’s death changes the emotional landscape. Neither event turns her into an adult overnight, and the season does not claim that grief alone determines everything she will do next.
