Mirai (2025) is a Telugu fantasy action-adventure whose elaborate effects and fight scenes are its clearest strengths. In her Scroll.in review, Deepa Gahlot finds that the film begins entertainingly but becomes heavy going as its crowded story and 165-minute runtime wear on. It is a better fit for viewers drawn to visual spectacle than for those looking for brisk pacing or a tightly economical plot.
What is Mirai about?
Teja Sajja plays Veda, a thief and scrap dealer who discovers he has powers and is pulled into a struggle over nine sacred books. In the film’s fictional account, Emperor Ashoka divides his life force among eight books and entrusts them to warriors; Ambica (Shriya Saran), Veda’s mother, knows where the ninth is. Mahabir Lama (Manoj Manchu) pursues the books for the power they promise. Veda’s quest also brings him a magical staff called Mirai and a giant vulture identified with Sampati from the Ramayana. These are elements of the movie’s fantasy plot, not historical claims about Ashoka or religious tradition.
Karthik Gattamneni directs and co-wrote the film with Manibabu Karanam. The film is in Telugu, with a production year of 2025.
How does the film work as a fantasy adventure?
Gahlot’s review describes an ambitious, visually lavish adventure that has an entertaining start but becomes difficult to sustain. Its scale and combat provide frequent attractions, while the number of story elements, pacing and loud background music can make the experience feel overstuffed. Frequent Sanskrit chants are another feature she notes. Occasional escapes and an unexpected ally help restore momentum, but do not fully offset the density.

The review’s strongest praise is for the film’s visual craft. Gahlot writes: “The visual effects and fight sequences are impressive most of the time, as is Sringendra Tangala’s lavish production design.” That captures the central trade-off: the imagery and fights have real appeal, but the narrative’s weight can blunt their impact.
Is Mirai worth watching?
If you enjoy large-scale fantasy, elaborate effects and action sequences, the film offers substantial spectacle to engage with. If you value brisk pacing and a streamlined story, its crowded script and length are more likely to frustrate. This recommendation reflects the strengths and drawbacks identified in Gahlot’s review, not a claim of critical consensus.
