Mike Peters, the Welsh singer and frontman of The Alarm, died on April 29, 2025, aged 66. RTÉ reported that the cause was blood cancer. Peters formed The Alarm in 1981 and remained closely associated with songs including “Sixty Eight Guns” and “Rain In The Summertime.”

Who was Mike Peters?

Peters was a Welsh singer and songwriter best known as the frontman of The Alarm, which he formed in 1981. The band’s official biography highlights “Sixty Eight Guns” and “Rain In The Summertime” among its classic singles. His work also extended beyond The Alarm: The Guardian noted that he became lead vocalist of the Scottish band Big Country in 2011.

How did Mike Peters die?

RTÉ reported that Peters died from blood cancer on April 29, 2025, at age 66. The broadcaster said he had been receiving treatment at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester before his death.

What Peters said about his illness

In a first-person statement dated May 3, 2024, Peters said he had lived with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) for 29 years and that it had transformed into Richter’s Syndrome, which he described as a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma. At the time, he described an 18-week course of R-CHOP chemotherapy as his planned treatment. That statement records his plan at that point; it does not establish his final treatment or provide a full chronology of his care.
