What is Michael Pitt accused of?
The Associated Press reported that the indictment covers four alleged incidents between April 2020 and August 2021 at Pitt’s home in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood. The charges include first-degree sexual abuse, criminal sexual acts, assault, attempted assault and strangulation. The nine-count figure describes the indictment, not nine proven offenses. The Associated Press’s May 7, 2025 report and ABC News’s coverage describe the allegations as set out in the indictment.
Those reports describe alleged forcible sexual touching in April 2020; forced oral sex and an assault with a piece of lumber in August 2020; attacks involving a cinder block in June 2021; and choking in August 2021. These details remain allegations. The accuser has not been publicly named in the reporting reviewed; ABC News said the indictment it reviewed redacted identities.
What has Pitt and his attorney said?
Pitt pleaded not guilty. His then-attorney, Jason Goldman, denied the allegations, called the claim baseless and said the defense had exonerating evidence and expected the case to be dismissed, according to the Associated Press and ABC News. Those statements represent the defense’s position, not a court finding.

What is the latest reported status of the case?
A Courthouse News report describes a later hearing at which Pitt remained out on a $15,000 bail package and newly retained attorney Stephen McCarthy offered to bring him to speak with prosecutors under a proffer agreement. The report says Judge Abena Darkeh had denied a motion to dismiss two counts and allowed Pitt to keep his passport. It also says the judge told counsel to be prepared on October 20 to discuss a trial schedule if there was no plea offer. Courthouse News quotes Darkeh as saying, “I take no position on whether there should be a resolution by plea or trial.”
The Courthouse News page’s displayed date conflicts with references inside the report to October 2026. The report therefore supports only that these developments and a planned October 20 court discussion were described; it does not establish that the hearing occurred or that the case has since been resolved.
