Where to find the trailer and documentary
Netflix’s title page for The Menendez Brothers describes a documentary examining the murders of the brothers’ parents and the ensuing trials, with Lyle and Erik speaking from prison. Netflix identifies it as a 2024 title, with a runtime of 1:58:15 and a TV-MA rating. Those are the listing details, not a guarantee of availability in every country.
Variety reported on September 24, 2024 that the trailer had been released and that the film was scheduled to stream on Netflix beginning October 7, 2024. That date was the announced release date at the time; use Netflix’s current listing to check whether the title is available where you are.
What the prison-interview audio says
The trailer frames the documentary around the brothers’ own explanations. As quoted by Variety in its September 24, 2024 report, Lyle says, “Everyone asks why we killed our parents,” then adds, “Maybe now people can understand the truth.” Erik says, “What happened that night is very well known but so much hasn’t been told,” and, “We were not the ones who told the story about our lives. Two kids don’t commit this crime for money.”

How the director describes the documentary’s approach
Director Alejandro Hartmann told Netflix Tudum that he wanted to explore how the prosecution thought and still thinks, while giving audiences material to reach their own conclusions. He said he hoped viewers would consider the story as a tragedy. That is Hartmann’s stated aim for the film’s framing; it does not make the brothers’ account or the trailer a substitute for evaluating the case independently. His comments appear in Netflix Tudum’s director interview.
