What happens in “A Helping Hand”?
In Peacock’s December 8 episode recap, McCarthy’s character is described as an overbearing older neighbor who insists on helping 12-year-old Teddy with his daily struggles. Her interventions grow more extreme: she ties up his bully, sends Teddy a firearm as a supposed holiday surprise, and the sketch ends with a darker reveal involving her mother’s corpse. These are fictional events in the sketch, not real-life incidents. Peacock’s recap links to the sketch.
The Los Angeles Times also characterized McCarthy’s character as a seemingly friendly elderly neighbor who goes to extremes to befriend a 12-year-old boy, independently corroborating the sketch’s basic premise. Its December 6 recap places the sketch in the holiday episode.
