Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone have two daughters, Vivian and Georgette. In interviews, McCarthy has described making laughter part of family life, paying attention to her daughters’ emotional wellbeing, and hoping to pass along her parents’ emphasis on hard work. Falcone has shared humorous fatherhood stories, too. These are personal reflections and snapshots—not a complete account of the family’s private life or a formal parenting plan.
What have Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone said about parenting?
The most detailed public comments in the available interviews come from McCarthy. She has talked about humor and play, the impact of pandemic disruption on children, and the work ethic she hopes to pass on. Falcone’s public contributions include family anecdotes and a book of essays about fatherhood. Together, their remarks offer a few glimpses of family life, not a comprehensive description of how they raise their daughters.
Why does McCarthy emphasize humor and play?
In a 2023 interview with The Guardian, McCarthy described a household shaped by comedy and an improv sensibility of “Yes, and…” and “Why not?” She put the aim simply: “My aim is to make my kids laugh.” The comments present humor as a way the family connects, not as a named or prescribed parenting method. Read the interview in The Guardian.
McCarthy also joked that in the McCarthy-Falcone household, “A good chuckle adds, on average, a week and a half to the end of one’s life.” That is a family joke, not a health statistic.

What has McCarthy said about her daughters’ happiness and mental health?
In a September 2021 interview with Fatherly, McCarthy reflected on how the pandemic and loss of in-person social contact affected her daughters, especially her older daughter at the time. She said she had become more flexible about taking a day off and was checking on happiness and mental health as well as schoolwork.
“I don’t buy into the whole idea that kids are so resilient and that they’ll just magically bounce back,” she said. She added: “I think kids are just like us. There’s going to be a ripple effect. We don’t really know what that is yet, but they’re not going to bounce back from it.” These were McCarthy’s reflections in 2021, not a universal clinical finding. Read the Fatherly interview.

She also spoke about admitting mistakes to her children: “I’m constantly screwing up. So I’m also constantly being like, well, I really screwed that up. I’m sorry. Show them that you can screw up big time.” In the interview, she framed acknowledging a mistake and apologizing as part of the example she tries to set.
What parenting advice does McCarthy hope to pass on?
In a 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight, McCarthy recalled her parents supporting her while stressing effort and persistence rather than treating every attempt as automatically successful. She said she hopes to pass their advice on to her daughters: “if you love it, keep doing it.” She also recalled their message: “Work really hard and then you’ve got as good of a chance as anybody else.” These are lessons she said she wants to share, not evidence of a formal family rule. What has Falcone shared about fatherhood?
Falcone’s fatherhood stories have often been humorous. In 2017, the Los Angeles Times reported on a public conversation in Santa Monica where McCarthy interviewed Falcone about his essay collection, Being a Dad Is Weird: Lessons in Fatherhood From My Family to Yours, published by HarperCollins at the time. The report recounts a funny breakfast exchange with their daughters and another story about Falcone moving slowly while the family was running late. They are anecdotes from a public conversation, not a complete portrait of the family’s everyday routines. Read the Los Angeles Times report.

A 2024 Parade interview reported that Vivian and Georgette had voice roles alongside their parents in the scripted comedy podcast Hildy the Barback and the Lake of Fire. The interview also described the family as enjoying cooking and watching movies together. This offers another glimpse of shared creative and everyday activities, but it does not establish a broader account of their family life. Read the Parade interview.
