In its July 17, 2024 announcement, the Paley Center cited Perry’s work as an actor, writer, director, producer, studio owner and philanthropist. It said he had produced more than 2,000 television episodes and directed, written and produced 28 feature films. The same release said Tyler Perry Studios opened in Atlanta in 2019. These career figures and the studio date are the Paley Center’s reported details.
The announcement also connected Perry’s career to plays that inspired films, the Madea franchise and storytelling that brought attention to underrepresented voices. Perry said he had aimed to bring people together and give a voice to people often underrepresented in media, and that he was honored to receive the award from an organization devoted to spotlighting media’s power and importance.

What were Harry and Meghan’s roles?
The Paley Center named Prince Harry and Meghan among the tribute host committee chairs. That announcement establishes their planned role in honoring Perry; it does not, by itself, confirm that either attended the gala.
The Sussexes’ office later reported that Meghan attended the event to celebrate Perry, whom the post called her dear friend. Its December 2024 retrospective does not say Harry attended. The documented distinction is therefore that both were announced as committee chairs, while Meghan’s attendance was subsequently confirmed.

When and where was the gala?
The Paley Center announced that the gala would take place on December 4, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. The release said proceeds from the evening would support the Paley Center’s educational programs and preservation of the Paley Archive.
