Their own public statement separately urged people who could help to shelter evacuees or pets and check on vulnerable neighbors; it did not identify any guests or describe the private hosting arrangements.
What was reported about the Sussexes’ home
The Independent reported on January 10, 2025, that the couple had opened their Montecito home to friends forced to flee. Vanity Fair reported a day earlier, attributing its account to a source close to the couple, that they had welcomed a few evacuated friends and loved ones. Vanity Fair also reported that they donated clothing and children’s items and were working with Archewell staff on further community support. These were media reports, not a public guest list or a detailed first-person account from the couple.
The Independent’s January 10 article said more than 70,000 people had been forced to leave their homes at that point. That was a dated snapshot of an unfolding emergency, not a final displacement total. The couple’s official January statement used the broader description “affecting tens of thousands.”
What the couple’s official statement asked people to do
The Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex published a January 2025 page titled “Southern California Fires.” It said the Archewell Foundation had donated to organizations providing immediate support and offered practical ways for the public to help. The statement said: “If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do.” It also urged readers to check whether disabled or elderly neighbors needed help evacuating.

Their reported visit to Pasadena
British Vogue reported that Harry and Meghan visited the Pasadena Convention Center on January 10. The publication quoted Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo describing them serving food earlier that day, visiting with impacted families, and thanking first responders. Gordo said: “This is their second visit today. We were here earlier today and they were serving food, anonymously. No one knew they were serving food, with masks on. They didn’t come out here for publicity. They came out here to work.” That is the mayor’s characterization, as quoted by British Vogue on January 13, rather than an independently established account of the couple’s motives.

The reported hosting and the couple’s public appeal are related but distinct facts. News outlets described the private offer of shelter; the official page documents the appeal to the public and names relief resources. The available reporting does not establish exactly how many people stayed at the Montecito home, how long they stayed, or their identities.
