They joined together as series regulars in the hospital’s relaunched residency program.
The Season 19 intern cohort
The five arrivals were introduced as new surgical residents entering Grey Sloan’s relaunched residency program. Here’s who plays each character and what the show’s introductory descriptions establish about them.
Harry Shum Jr. as Benson “Blue” Kwan
Blue is a gifted, sharp-witted first-year surgical resident who is impatient, generous, and highly competitive. Shum described him to Shondaland as someone with a single-minded drive: “he has a one-track mind. Blue just wants to win at everything [and] be No. 1 — that’s his whole life. That’s what he’s kind of focused on.”
Adelaide Kane as Jules Millin
Jules is a first-year surgical intern. Shondaland describes her as self-reliant and kindhearted, with natural leadership instincts and a willingness to break rules.

Alexis Floyd as Simone Griffith
Simone is a first-year surgical intern and Seattle native whose history with Grey Sloan is complicated. Use the spelling Griffith: ABC’s current cast page and Shondaland’s Season 19 interview use that surname, although an ABC News casting report initially printed “Griffin.”
Niko Terho as Lucas Adams
Lucas is a first-year surgical resident who has often felt overshadowed by accomplished doctors in his family. He arrives determined to prove himself.

Their shared place in the relaunched residency program brings them into Grey Sloan at the same point in their medical careers, while their different family histories and motivations give each a distinct starting point.

Names and Season 19 context
For Blue Kwan’s full name, Benson is the better-supported choice: Shondaland and ABC’s current cast page use Benson “Blue” Kwan. An ABC News casting report from July 28, 2022 used Daniel “Blue” Kwan, so early coverage differs on his first name.
Shondaland published its interview with the new cast on October 5, 2022. ABC News reported that Season 19 premiered the following day, October 6, 2022. ABC’s current series page links to Hulu, but that link alone does not establish whether Season 19 is currently available there.
