Noah Centineo became widely associated with the “Internet’s Boyfriend” label after playing Peter Kavinsky in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. His career has since moved through more romantic comedies, a superhero role in Black Adam, and the spy thriller The Recruit—a series on which he also served as an executive producer.
Who is Noah Centineo?
Centineo is an American actor from Miami whose breakout role was Peter Kavinsky, the warm-hearted high-school boyfriend in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Netflix described the character as making Centineo the internet’s “collective object of affection.” The phrase “Internet’s Boyfriend” captures a recognizable phase of his career, not every role he has taken since.

In a Dec. 30, 2024 interview with Netflix Tudum’s Jean Bentley, Centineo reflected on how quickly recognition followed the film. He was 22 at the time of the breakout, and said the attention brought opportunities as well as a loss of privacy. “Having people who don’t know you know your face is not inherently organic. It’s not found in the animal kingdom,” he said.
Why was he called the “Internet’s Boyfriend”?
The label grew out of the response to Peter Kavinsky: a romantic lead whose kindness and charm made him memorable to viewers. It became shorthand for Centineo’s public image after To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, rather than a formal title or a measure of how every audience member felt about him.

Centineo said he was comfortable with the association. “I had no problem being an ‘internet boyfriend.’ It was a really incredible time in my life to have done something that impacted so many different people across the planet,” he told Tudum. He also welcomed the chance to take on characters beyond high school: “I’m out of high school. We’re growing up, people, and it’s fantastic!”
How his roles broadened after Peter Kavinsky
After the To All the Boys films established his romantic-comedy profile, Centineo appeared in Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and The Perfect Date. He later played a superhero in DC’s Black Adam. These credits show a shift in role type, from teen romance and romantic comedy to a comic-book action film.

Centineo’s role behind the camera on The Recruit
Centineo’s connection to the series goes beyond starring in it. Netflix reported that he first brought creator Alexi Hawley’s script to the service and helped develop the story. He is also an executive producer, giving him a creative role in the project as well as the lead performance.
That combination makes The Recruit a useful marker in his career: the actor associated with a teen-romance breakout had moved into a spy-thriller lead and taken on producing responsibilities.
