The people sometimes linked to the club in the evidence here fall into different categories: owner and supporter Simon Sadler, former player Sir Stanley Matthews, campaign participant Micah Richards, and visiting Wrexham supporter Rob McElhenney. Those connections do not all establish celebrity fandom.
Is there a verified list of Blackpool FC celebrity supporters?
Not from the sources cited here. A person being associated with Blackpool FC, appearing at a match, or taking part in a club campaign is not enough to establish that they are a fan. A reliable celebrity-supporter list would need direct evidence, such as the person’s own public statement or an interview or report explicitly identifying them as a Blackpool supporter.
People linked to Blackpool FC—and what the evidence says
Simon Sadler: owner and documented supporter
Simon Sadler is the clearest case of a documented Blackpool fan among these examples. A 2019 Guardian profile describes him as a childhood supporter who took over the club; a 2020 Guardian interview also calls him a boyhood fan. These sources establish his connection as both supporter and owner, but do not, by themselves, establish him as a celebrity supporter. The Guardian’s 2019 profile and its 2020 interview document that background.
Sir Stanley Matthews: a Blackpool player, not a verified supporter
Sir Stanley Matthews is closely associated with Blackpool as a celebrated player, including through the club’s 1953 FA Cup Final story. The FA’s account is about his playing career and football legacy; it does not identify him as a Blackpool supporter. The FA’s Matthews feature supports describing him as a Blackpool great, not adding him to a fan list.

Micah Richards: campaign participant
Blackpool FC named Micah Richards among football figures involved in its February 2026 #ShowYourHeart campaign, which urged people to learn CPR. The club article does not say Richards supports Blackpool.
Rob McElhenney: a visiting Wrexham supporter
The Associated Press reported McElhenney at a Blackpool match as a Wrexham supporter. Attending a game against Blackpool in support of the visiting team does not establish allegiance to Blackpool FC. The AP match report identifies the distinction.

What counts as evidence of celebrity support?
For a name to belong on a credible list, the evidence should explicitly connect that person’s fandom to Blackpool FC—not just to the town, the club’s history, its players, or a particular match. An attributable statement from the person or reliable reporting that directly describes their support is stronger evidence than an incidental association.
