This guide introduces 15 notable wrestlers connected to that family history, while distinguishing direct relatives from broader kinship ties. The list is selective, not a complete family census.
How the family connections work
The Anoa’i name appears across several branches of the family, but not every connection is a direct blood relationship. USA Network’s 2022 family-tree feature describes Peter Maivia as a “blood brother” of family patriarch Amituana’i and says Afa and Sika regarded Maivia as an uncle. It also traces Dwayne Johnson’s connection through Maivia’s adoption of Ata, Maivia’s daughter. These ties are part of a shared family legacy, but they do not make Maivia or Johnson Roman Reigns’ direct blood ancestors or cousins.
The family’s wrestling story spans Afa and Sika’s generation, their relatives and descendants, and later stars including Reigns and the Usos. WWE’s Wild Samoans biography says Afa and Sika debuted in WWE together in 1979; USA Network’s account identifies them as brothers.
Earlier generation and the Wild Samoans
1. Peter Maivia — “The High Chief”
Peter Maivia was a wrestler and High Chief of the American Samoa Mālietoa lineage. His place in the wider wrestling family is described through kinship: Amituana’i considered him a “blood brother,” and Afa and Sika thought of him as an uncle. That relationship helps explain the family’s broad legacy without presenting Maivia as Roman Reigns’ biological ancestor.

2. Afa Anoa’i
Afa was one half of the Wild Samoans, alongside his brother Sika. WWE says Afa was trained by Peter Maivia and Rocky Johnson, later trained Sika, and went on to train other wrestlers. USA Network identifies Afa’s wrestler sons as Samu, Manu (Afa Jr.) and L.A. Smooth (Lloyd Anoa’i). Its 2022 feature credits Afa and Sika with 21 tag team championships across various federations; WWE separately describes their wider combined legacy of wrestling, management and training as producing or winning more than 50 championships, a broad WWE tally rather than an audited family total.
3. Sika Anoa’i
Sika was Afa’s brother and the other Wild Samoan. He was trained by Afa and became the father of Rosey and Roman Reigns. WWE’s account of the team and USA Network’s family tree document these connections.
4. Yokozuna (Rodney Anoa’i)
WWE lists Yokozuna among the wrestlers trained by Afa and Sika. USA Network identifies him as the son of Anoa’i Jr. His character’s ring presentation should not be mistaken for a statement about his real-life ethnicity.
Children, nephews and wider family connections
5. Samu (Samuel Anoa’i)
Samu is Afa’s son. USA Network also places him with Matt Anoa’i in the Samoan Gangstas, linking him to another branch of the family’s wrestling history.
6. Rosey (Matt Anoa’i)
Rosey was Sika’s son and Roman Reigns’ older brother. WWE’s 2017 notice says he debuted in 2002 alongside his cousin Jamal and later won a World Tag Team Championship with The Hurricane.

7. Rikishi (Solofa Fatu)
WWE describes Rikishi as Afa and Sika’s nephew, and USA Network identifies him as the father of Jimmy and Jey Uso. His branch connects the older Wild Samoan generation to two of WWE’s most prominent twin wrestlers.
8. Manu (Afa Jr.)
Manu is one of Afa’s sons who wrestled. USA Network also groups him with his brothers as part of the Sons of Samoa.
9. L.A. Smooth (Lloyd Anoa’i)
L.A. Smooth, also known as Lloyd Anoa’i, is another of Afa’s wrestler sons. USA Network includes him in the Sons of Samoa grouping.
10. Reno Anoa’i (Black Pearl)
USA Network identifies Reno Anoa’i as Tumua’s son and says he also wrestled under the name Count of California. The source documents his family and ring-name connections without offering further career detail.
11. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Johnson belongs to the wider family legacy through Peter Maivia and Ata. USA Network says Maivia adopted Ata, and Ata and wrestler Rocky Johnson had Dwayne. That documented relationship is distinct from a claim that Johnson is Roman Reigns’ blood cousin.

Roman Reigns and the younger generation
12. Roman Reigns (Leati Anoa’i)
Roman Reigns is Sika’s son and Rosey’s younger brother. WWE’s Reigns biography presents him as part of a storied wrestling family and describes The Bloodline as a faction connected to his story.
13. Jimmy Uso
Jimmy Uso is one of Rikishi’s twin sons. His family branch connects him to Roman through the broader Anoa’i family; WWE describes Reigns and the Usos as cousins.

Jey Uso is Jimmy’s twin brother and Rikishi’s son. WWE’s Jey Uso profile identifies him as part of the Anoa’i family and Roman Reigns’ cousin. The biography records his 2025 Royal Rumble win and World Heavyweight Championship victory at WrestleMania 41; these are dated career milestones, not a statement about his current title status.
15. Solo Sikoa
Solo Sikoa is the Usos’ younger brother. WWE’s Reigns profile places him among the members of Reigns’ Bloodline faction, while identifying Reigns and the Usos as cousins.
The family tree is not the same as The Bloodline
The Bloodline is a WWE storyline faction, not a synonym for every member of the extended family. WWE’s Reigns profile describes a group that included relatives as well as Paul Heyman and Sami Zayn. Reigns has spoken about representing earlier generations: in an Associated Press report published January 28, 2025, about WWE 2K25, he said, “We’re always trying to represent our family, I’m always trying to represent the elders of my family and the ones that laid down the groundwork and the foundation that we stand on.”
