The loss reshapes Bode’s relationships with his family and the Edgewater community. Thieriot’s reported outlook is that Bode will mature into someone those around him can rely on.
Who dies in Fire Country?
Vince, played by Billy Burke, dies as season four begins. The death is a story event for Vince, not an announcement that Thieriot has died or left the show. TV Insider reports that Vince’s loss affects Sharon, Bode, Station 42 and the wider Edgewater community: TV Insider’s report on Thieriot and Vince’s death.

That distinction matters because the headline’s “what’s next” concerns Bode’s story. The series follows Bode, played by Thieriot, in the fictional community of Edgewater. CBS describes the show as inspired by Thieriot’s experiences growing up in Northern California fire country; the Associated Press identifies him as the show’s star, co-creator and executive producer.
What does Vince’s death mean for Bode?
Thieriot’s reported direction for Bode is personal growth: he expects Bode to become a more mature and dependable presence in the community. That is the actor’s stated outlook on the character, not confirmation of particular plot turns or a guarantee that Bode will respond to grief in a specific way. The death’s reported effect on both Bode and Edgewater gives that growth a community dimension, rather than making it only a private family story.

What’s next for Fire Country?
As of October 8, 2026, season five is scheduled to premiere Friday, October 9. CBS/Paramount’s official announcement sets up a catastrophic sinkhole beneath Edgewater, trapping residents and sending Station 42 into a high-stakes rescue: Paramount Press Express’s season-five announcement. This is the announced premise, not a complete account of the season or confirmation of any particular character’s fate.
CinemaBlend reports that season five is planned for 13 episodes, compared with 20 in each of the two preceding seasons. The outlet also reports Thieriot’s view that the shorter run may help the character work land. Both the episode count and that reasoning should be understood as reported details, not a promise about how the finished season will feel: CinemaBlend’s season-five report.
