What the expired Max deal offered
The promotion applied to eligible new and returning U.S. HBO Max subscribers signing up through HBO Max.com, Prime Video Subscriptions, or The Roku Channel. Its advertised 40% savings were measured against paying the regular monthly price for 12 months—not against the regular annual prices. The official terms listed these discounted first-year prices and renewal prices for that promotion:

These figures are from the expired June–July 2026 offer terms and are not current prices. The terms said the promotional fee was billed in full at enrollment, before applicable taxes, and that the subscription would renew annually at then-current prices unless canceled before the next billing period. Relative to the listed regular annual prices, the first-year savings were $31 for Basic With Ads, $52 for Standard, and $65 for Premium; those comparisons are different from the offer’s 40%-off-monthly-rate basis.

How to compare Max plans before paying annually
The Max Help Center lists these U.S. plan features. Because the page’s prices may be dated and plan names or features can change, use it as a feature guide and confirm the offer and terms at checkout.

Before choosing annual billing, weigh the full upfront cost and renewal price against the features you will actually use: ad-free viewing, extra streams, downloads, higher-resolution video or spatial audio, and live sports. The deal headline alone does not show which tier is best for you.

- Open Max’s signup flow or the provider through which you intend to subscribe, then choose a plan and billing period.
- Enter your account details and payment method, and review the checkout screen for the current total, eligibility, billing channel, and renewal amount.
- Confirm only if the price and recurring billing terms suit you. Max says subscriptions auto-renew until canceled; the provider that bills you can affect where you manage the subscription.
- If you do not want the next annual charge, cancel before the next billing period using the account or billing provider that manages your subscription.
Max’s signup instructions describe choosing a plan and billing period, entering account and payment details, and starting the subscription. They also state: “Your subscription will auto-renew on a recurring basis until you cancel.” See Max’s official subscription instructions for the signup and billing guidance.
