Mauricio Umansky has been connected to several separate legal matters, but they do not amount to one ongoing case against him. A federal False Claims Act case naming him was dismissed with prejudice in July 2025. In August 2026, a judge denied a document request in a separate lawsuit involving ThePLS.com and the National Association of Realtors (NAR); that ruling did not decide the lawsuit itself. Older litigation over a 2017 mansion sale was reported as dismissed or settled. A separate U.S. Department of Justice forfeiture case involving a Beverly Hills mansion does not identify Umansky as a defendant.
What legal matters have involved Mauricio Umansky?
The matters differ in their parties, claims and status. The distinction matters: a final judgment ending a case is not the same as a ruling on evidence in another case, and allegations in a complaint are not findings of liability.

Was the False Claims Act case against Umansky dismissed?
Yes. In United States of America ex rel. Relator LLC et al. v. Mauricio Umansky et al., Case No. 2:23-cv-05625, the court’s July 28, 2025 final judgment says it had partly granted defendants’ motion to dismiss in January 2025 and granted The Agency Holdco’s motion for summary judgment. It then dismissed the relator’s claims on the merits with prejudice and terminated the case. That is a resolved matter, not a pending suit.
What did the judge decide in the PLS–NAR dispute?
ThePLS.com, a pocket-listing company co-founded by Umansky, brought a lawsuit against NAR over its Clear Cooperation Policy. In the separate discovery dispute reported on August 20, 2026, NAR sought documents from UMRO Realty Group, known as The Agency, concerning earlier lawsuits tied to an allegedly fraudulent real-estate transaction. UMRO/The Agency was not a party to the PLS–NAR lawsuit.

The judge denied NAR’s request to compel those records, finding that producing them would impose an “undue burden” on The Agency/UMRO. NAR’s spokesperson said the ruling concerned a discrete discovery request and did not change NAR’s strategy in the underlying case. It was not a ruling that dismissed PLS’s claims or decided who should prevail.
RISMedia’s August 10, 2026 report said a hearing had been requested for August 28; the later Real Estate News report describes the document-request ruling. The cited reporting does not establish what happened in subsequent proceedings after August 20, 2026.

What were the older lawsuits about?
RISMedia reported that Umansky was sued multiple times over the 2017 sale of a mansion seized by the U.S. government. The suits reportedly alleged that he represented the seller and then secretly worked to buy the property and resell it for a profit. Those are allegations, not established facts. The report says fraud-related suits against Umansky and his brokerage were eventually dismissed or settled and that he denied wrongdoing. It does not specify the outcome, timing or terms of each individual case.

The cited DOJ release does not name Umansky as a defendant or allege that he participated in the alleged scheme. It describes a civil forfeiture complaint seeking a Beverly Hills mansion that the government alleges was purchased and improved using proceeds connected to a defense-contracting bribery and fraud scheme. The DOJ says approximately $30 million from a trust benefiting a senior Kurdish official was transferred in 2018 to buy the property, with renovation and improvement work from 2019 to 2022. The release also alleges the scheme involved more than $700 million in Defense Logistics Agency contracts during 2016–2020 and bribes to an official of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. These figures describe allegations in the government’s complaint, not findings against Umansky.

The DOJ cautions: “A civil complaint is merely an allegation.” It says the government must prove forfeiture by a preponderance of the evidence. The cited release does not establish whether Umansky or The Agency had any transaction role, so it does not support connecting either to the alleged scheme.
