Why was Gae Exton part of the documentary?

Alexandra said it was meaningful to hear her mother tell the story of her relationship with Christopher and of the family’s closeness after the couple separated. She described their continued connection as a “united set of parents” and said she was glad the film celebrated it. That is Alexandra’s description of her family’s experience.
How does the documentary present the Reeve family?
The documentary, directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, draws on the perspectives of Reeve’s children and those close to him. PEOPLE reported that home footage filmed by Dana Reeve appears throughout the film. Matthew called Dana, Christopher’s later wife, “the family documentarian”; he said she recorded moments so Christopher could watch when he could not be there.
Christopher and Gae Exton’s children were Matthew and Alexandra. Christopher later married Dana Reeve, and they had a son, Will. PEOPLE’s report also notes that Christopher was paralyzed in a 1995 equestrian incident and died in 2004 at age 52; Dana died of lung cancer in 2006 at age 44.
