Matt Lucas apologized to Millie Bobby Brown after she criticized public commentary about her face, body and choices. Lucas said his post was a reference to his Little Britain character Vicky Pollard, not an attempt to insult Brown; that explanation is his account of his intent.
What prompted Brown’s response
Brown objected to coverage and comments focused on how her appearance had changed as she grew up. She said she began working in entertainment at age 10 and challenged the expectation that she should continue looking as she did in the first season of Stranger Things.

In an Instagram video caption reproduced by Variety, Brown wrote: “The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it’s disturbing.” She also wrote: “I started in this industry when I was 10 years old.” These are quotations as reported by Variety; the original post was not independently verified here. Why Lucas apologized
Lucas had posted a Vicky Pollard catchphrase alongside a photo of Brown. In his explanation, he said her blonde hair and pink top reminded him of the character. Lucas said he thought Brown looked terrific, was mortified by reports that he had “slammed” her, and had not intended to upset her. Those statements describe his own explanation; reporting does not independently establish his intent.
