In “A Traitor in Thine Own House,” Matty’s biggest problem is Shae, a jury consultant whose ability to read people puts Matty’s assumed identity at risk. With Sarah now aligned with Shae, Matty and Edwin set a trap to turn Shae’s scrutiny back on her. The episode also follows Olympia’s work on a startup trade-secrets case and adds a possible clue to the continuing Wellbrexa mystery.

Matty’s cover draws Shae’s attention

Matty worries that Shae will see through her assumed identity. She practices handling scrutiny with Edwin, but the situation grows more urgent when Sarah, angry with Matty, joins forces with Shae. The alliance gives Shae a closer look at Matty and makes the threat to her cover harder to ignore.

Shae’s reputation as a “human lie detector” is central to the tension: Matty is not simply dealing with a difficult colleague, but someone whose perceptiveness could expose the identity she has been using.

The case of the week: stolen startup trade secrets

Alongside the office conflict, Olympia works on a case involving a technology startup and stolen trade secrets. The recap identifies the client, Ben, as an entrepreneur in rain-making technology and describes Olympia’s effort to expose his strategy involving leaked intellectual property. The legal case supplies the episode’s work-focused storyline, distinct from the personal and season-long questions surrounding Matty and Shae.

Matty and Edwin turn the investigation around

Rather than leave Shae to investigate unchecked, Matty and Edwin bait her into looking into Matty’s past. Once Matty identifies Shae’s meddling, she files an HR complaint. The maneuver gives Matty a way to challenge Shae’s conduct at work, even as the threat to her cover remains the reason Shae’s attention matters so much.

Shae’s past raises a Wellbrexa question

Edwin learns that Shae worked in marketing before joining Jacobson Moore. Matty and Edwin consider whether that background could connect her to the Wellbrexa matter, but the episode presents it as a possibility to investigate, not a confirmed answer. Shae’s past therefore links the immediate workplace conflict to the series’ continuing mystery.

Edwin’s secret and Alfie’s father

The episode closes on two personal threads. Edwin conceals information about a message from a friend of his late daughter. Matty, meanwhile, raises the possibility of looking for Alfie’s biological father. Neither thread resolves the central questions; instead, both broaden the emotional stakes beyond the case and Matty’s confrontation with Shae.
