Martell Holt was arrested in Madison County, Alabama, on January 9, 2024, on a charge described by police as third-degree domestic violence/harassing communications. One Reddit commenter said, “Unfortunately I’m not surprised,” but that lone reaction does not show that viewers generally expected the arrest. Later reports said Holt was convicted in May 2024 and that a guilty plea after an appeal in August 2025 left the conviction standing.
Why was Martell Holt arrested?
WAFF reported on January 9, 2024, that Holt was arrested in Madison County on a charge police described as third-degree domestic violence/harassing communications. He was booked shortly after 4 p.m. and released shortly after 7 p.m., according to the station’s account of police information. An arrest and charge are not, by themselves, proof of guilt.
Holt’s publicist, Jonell Whitt, said the allegations concerned harassment texts dating back to August 2022. In a statement reported by TMZ, Whitt said Holt “adamantly denies any intentional harm or harassment towards the Accuser” and characterized the allegations as a misunderstanding. That was Holt’s response to the allegations, not a finding about what happened.
What happened after the arrest?
Later coverage reported a court outcome beyond the initial arrest. TheJasmineBRAND reported on May 16, 2024, that Holt had been convicted of third-degree domestic violence/harassing communications against his former wife and co-star, Melody Shari Rodgers. Urban Belle reported on September 4, 2025, that after an appeal, Holt entered a guilty plea on August 18, 2025, and the conviction stood. The detailed procedural and sentence terms are not independently established here, so those accounts should be understood as attributed reporting.

Why did some viewers say they weren’t surprised?
A January 10, 2024, Reddit discussion about the arrest included one commenter’s response: “Unfortunately I’m not surprised.” It is a concrete example of a viewer reacting that way, but it is anecdotal—not a poll, a representative sample, or evidence that viewers broadly expected the arrest. There is no basis in the cited coverage to quantify how many viewers felt that way.
Deadline’s January 2024 description of Love & Marriage: Huntsville said the OWN reality series centered on three Huntsville couples who came together around a real-estate venture, and that Holt had appeared in the show’s first six seasons at that time. The program’s edited scenes provide context for viewers’ familiarity with its cast; they are not evidence of real-world conduct.

What is the later 2026 context?
In a September 22, 2026, report, WAFF said Rodgers turned herself in on a third-degree domestic-violence/harassment charge. Her publicist attributed the charge to alleged harassment by Holt, while Rodgers described the charges as fabricated. Those are claims reported from the people involved and do not establish either person’s account as fact. The report also quoted Alabama State Senator Merika Coleman discussing legislation she planned to introduce in the 2027 session concerning knowingly false reports. The proposal was not enacted law in that report, and this separate development does not mean Holt’s reported 2024 conviction was reversed.
