Spoilers: Michael Shiakallis and Chloe Brown did divorce. On Decision Day, Michael chose to end the marriage, while Chloe wanted to stay together. Before that outcome, the season showed uncertainty about readiness for marriage and differences over what their future might look like. Those moments help explain why viewers could see trouble ahead—but they do not prove Michael had secretly decided to leave from the start.
What happened to Michael and Chloe on Decision Day?
Michael asked for a divorce; Chloe said she wanted to remain married, according to Reality TV World’s Decision Day recap. Their different answers made the split explicit rather than a prediction based only on hints.

Their story also had an unusual beginning. Michael’s first bride-to-be left him at the altar, and he was later matched with Chloe for a second wedding. That context explains why their timeline differed from the other couples; it does not establish either person’s motives. Access Hollywood’s interview preview describes the second-chance match.
What signs suggested the marriage was in trouble?
They had doubts about readiness and a shared future
Earlier in the season, Chloe raised whether they had a future together, and Michael acknowledged uncertainty about whether he was ready for marriage, as described in Reality TV World’s episode recap. The recap also says they described themselves as fully married after one month. The contrast—reaching that milestone while still facing questions about the future—was a sign of strain, not proof that the relationship was doomed.

Their visions for the future differed
Decision Day coverage highlighted Chloe’s aspirations to create an animal sanctuary and foster children as part of the couple’s compatibility discussion. Those plans raised questions about whether their long-term goals aligned, but the available coverage does not establish them as the cause of Michael’s decision.
They did not want the same outcome
The clearest sign was the choice each made on Decision Day: Michael wanted a divorce and Chloe wanted to continue the marriage. That difference establishes the outcome, but it does not by itself explain every private reason behind it.

What did they say at the reunion about Michael’s doubts?
In a reunion preview published April 10, 2024, TV Insider reported that Chloe said Michael’s decision changed how she understood his earlier behavior. She wondered whether his not telling his mother meant he had not intended to stay married. Her words were a retrospective suspicion, not confirmation of a hidden plan:
“When I say that it was not until his ‘no’ on Decision Day that I started saying, ‘Wow, so maybe this is why he didn’t tell his mom. Maybe it really was the fact that he didn’t intend to stay married.’”

TV Insider’s preview also reports that Michael said his doubts began shortly before their one-month timeframe. That places his uncertainty before the final decision, but the preview does not provide a complete explanation of what drove it. The distinction matters: his reported doubts are evidence of uncertainty, while Chloe’s interpretation of his earlier actions remains her interpretation.

Season 17 is set in Denver. Lifetime’s episode listing dates the premiere to October 18, 2023, and the first Decision Day installment to March 6, 2024. It also lists two Denver reunion episodes and a follow-up, “Where Are They Now: To Hurt or to Heal,” showing that the couples’ stories continued after the initial decisions.
