What Andrew Jury’s father said
In an account reported by The New Zealand Herald on July 1, 2024, Roy Jury described himself as “bewildered and deeply saddened.” He also said he had concerns about his son’s mental state before a scheduled court appearance.
That account describes the family’s reaction and the father’s concerns. It does not explain what caused Andrew Jury’s death, and it should not be read as establishing a cause or manner of death.
Where and when did Andrew Jury die?
The Herald reported that Jury died at Mt Eden Corrections Facility in Auckland on the morning of June 27, 2024, while on remand. He was due to appear in court later that day.

The prison’s general manager, Dion Paki, told the Herald that “a man passed away on the morning of Thursday, June 27, despite the efforts of medical and emergency staff to save him.” Paki’s statement confirms that staff responded, but gives no cause of death.
What was reported about the court case?
The Herald reported that, at the time, Jury faced charges including assault with intent to injure, wilful damage and possession of an offensive weapon. These were reported as active charges, not convictions. The reporting does not establish any connection between those charges and his death.

Who was Andrew Jury on Married at First Sight?
Jury appeared in the first season of Married at First Sight New Zealand in 2017. On June 30, 2024, former cast members announced his death in a joint statement, as reported by 1News.

The prison manager’s description of the emergency response and the father’s comments about his concerns before court are not evidence of a specific cause. PerthNow’s July 1, 2024 report used the headline “Married at First Sight: Father reveals details about his son Andrew Jury’s death,” but attributed the account to the New Zealand Herald rather than presenting it as a separate firsthand statement.
