PerthNow’s recap describes a tense week leading up to the ceremony. Ellie had given Ben further chances, while Ben had made a list of things he disliked about her. The experts discussed the couple’s conflict, and Ellie said she felt “robbed” of the chance to find a suitable husband on the show. Those are the recap’s descriptions and Ellie’s reported perspective, not independent findings about either participant.

Expert John Aitken told Ben, “We searched high and low for a match for you, we got you one and you dropped the ball,” and later said, “Frankly I’m done.” Ellie said, “I’m going to take my new voice and walk out of here with confidence and, I’m leaving.” Ben also chose “leave,” so the pair left the experiment together.
How Ellie and Ben explained the breakup
In Nine’s official exit interview, Ellie summed up the difference between them this way: “Ben and I have different communication styles.” Ben described his own experience differently: “For me, it was lack of communication. It felt like it was just one-sided. For me, that was really challenging.” These are each participant’s retrospective account, not a jointly agreed explanation.

Ellie also said they spent only 24 hours together during the seven days after the previous ceremony, including a major argument. That figure is her account in the interview, not an independently verified measure.
Why their final decision followed an uncertain week
Nine’s later-ceremony recap says Ellie and Ben had previously written “leave” but then chose to stay for another week. Their final decision therefore came after an earlier opportunity to continue, rather than being their first indication that the relationship was in trouble.
