Marco Antonio Regil publicó una despedida para su madre, Irma Sánchez Mayans, el 3 de febrero de 2017, cuando —según lo que él contó— el Alzheimer había llegado a una etapa avanzada. Ella seguía viva: Regil anunció su fallecimiento doce días después, el 15 de febrero.

Regil compartió una carta y un mensaje sobre su madre en redes sociales. Quién reprodujo una de sus frases: «El día que tanto temía desde que era un niño ha llegado. Es tiempo de decirle adiós al ser que me dio la vida». Quién publicó la carta el 3 de febrero de 2017.
En esa despedida, Regil expresó gratitud por el apoyo que recibió de ella y recordó que su madre lo respaldó cuando decidió que quería trabajar como locutor en radio y televisión. La cobertura de Quién presentó ese vínculo como una parte importante de su mensaje.
Qué contó sobre la salud de su madre
El Informador reportó que Regil dijo que el médico le había comunicado que el Alzheimer había llegado a su fase final y que su madre ya no podía comer ni tomar líquidos. La nota reprodujo estas palabras atribuidas a él: «Hoy me dijo el doctor que el Alzhéimer ha llegado a su fase final y y no puede comer ni tomar líquidos». Son declaraciones recogidas por la prensa, no una valoración médica independiente. El Informador informó sobre el mensaje el 3 de febrero de 2017.

El fallecimiento, el 15 de febrero
El 15 de febrero, Regil anunció que su madre había fallecido. Milenio citó su mensaje: «A las 12:20 am de hoy, 15 de Febrero mamá dejo de respirar y descansó en paz». La fecha del anuncio marca un momento distinto de la despedida publicada el día 3: Irma Sánchez Mayans aún vivía cuando su hijo escribió aquella carta. Milenio reportó el fallecimiento el 15 de febrero de 2017.
Milenio informó que tenía 85 años y que había estado hospitalizada por neumonía; también reportó que padecía Alzheimer. Las circunstancias de salud aquí mencionadas corresponden a lo publicado por ese medio y a las declaraciones atribuidas a Regil.
