INKR was a successor project focused on licensed comics, not a full transfer of Manga Rock’s catalogue or user accounts.
What happened to Manga Rock?
In a January 2020 announcement reproduced in a community post, the Manga Rock Team said it had removed reading features from its website. Title pages would instead link to official providers, including Comixology and VIZ. The team also said it received no referral fee when readers bought comics through those links. That website change was not, by itself, a definitive date for when every installed app stopped working. On April 21, 2020, DigiStatement reported that Manga Rock’s site and app had completely shut down. That report describes a later milestone than the January removal of website reading features. DigiStatement’s April 2020 report.
Why did Manga Rock shut down?
The team said it wanted to move toward licensed comics and rebuild trust with publishers and creators. In an April 24, 2020 explanation, INKR author Hieu Tr. Tran called trust “the biggest barrier” between the team and the industry, and said Manga Rock’s shutdown was intended to demonstrate its commitment to licensed content. Read Tran’s explanation.

Did Manga Rock become INKR?
INKR was a successor project from the team, but it was not a one-for-one migration of Manga Rock. INKR says some former Manga Rock titles are unavailable because the old catalogue consisted of unofficial scanlations; its help documentation also says reading history and favorites could not be transferred. INKR’s explanation of missing titles and account data.
So Manga Rock’s closure did not mean every series previously read there would become available on INKR. Availability depended on legitimate content arrangements, and the successor’s catalogue differed from the scanlation site’s.

What should former readers check now?
For a particular series, check official services directly rather than assuming it moved to INKR or another provider. Compare whether the title is licensed in your region, which language and chapters are offered, and whether access is by purchase, subscription, coins, or another model. The Manga Rock announcement named official providers as destinations, but it does not establish current title availability or prices.

A December 17, 2020 Kodansha USA partnership announcement said its INKR library would expand to over 400 volumes. That is a historical figure from the partnership announcement, not a current count of INKR’s catalogue. Kodansha USA’s 2020 announcement.
