Sean “Diddy” Combs has faced rape and abuse allegations in civil lawsuits and broader accusations in a federal criminal case. The legal outcomes are not all the same: a jury acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, convicted him on two prostitution-related transportation counts, and separate civil claims have been settled or dismissed on procedural grounds. None of those outcomes decides every allegation made against him.
What was alleged in the federal criminal case?
A federal indictment unsealed in September 2024 accused Combs of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transporting people to engage in prostitution. Prosecutors alleged a broader scheme involving coercion and prostitution-related conduct. Those statements were accusations by the government, not findings of fact simply because they appeared in an indictment. Later superseding indictments changed the charging allegations.
Combs denied allegations before trial, according to Associated Press reporting. The trial verdict, rather than the indictment, established the jury’s findings on the charges it considered.
What did the jury decide?
On July 2, 2025, the jury acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking and convicted him on two counts related to transporting people for prostitution. The verdict was therefore mixed: guilty on two transportation counts, not guilty on the racketeering and sex-trafficking counts.

Those findings concern the criminal charges tried. They do not amount to a conviction for rape, nor do the acquittals decide the truth of separate civil complaints. A federal docket tracker records that Combs filed a notice of appeal from the criminal judgment on October 20, 2025; that entry confirms the filing, not its later status or result.
What did Cassie Ventura allege, and how did her case end?
In a civil complaint filed on November 16, 2023, singer Cassie Ventura alleged years of abuse during her relationship with Combs, including rape. Combs denied her allegations through his attorney. The case settled the next day on undisclosed terms.
Rank #2
A settlement resolves a lawsuit without a public trial verdict on the claims. The settlement terms were not disclosed, so it should not be described as an admission or as proof that the allegations were true.
What happened in other civil cases?
Jane Doe’s 1995-party allegation
A Jane Doe complaint in federal court in the Southern District of New York alleged that Combs raped her at a New York party in 1995. In March 2025, Judge Lewis J. Liman denied her request to proceed anonymously and ordered her to file under her own name by a deadline or face dismissal. That ruling addressed anonymity and filing procedure, not whether the alleged rape occurred.
Rank #3
Dawn Richard’s lawsuit
In June 2026, Judge Katherine Polk Failla dismissed most claims in singer Dawn Richard’s federal lawsuit as untimely. The ruling allowed one allegation to be refiled in state court, and Richard’s lawyer said they intended to do so. A dismissal based on the filing deadline addresses when claims were brought, not whether the underlying events happened.

| Case or proceeding | What was decided | What the outcome does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Federal criminal trial | Acquittals on racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking; convictions on two prostitution-related transportation counts. | The verdict does not decide every separate civil allegation. |
| Ventura civil case | Settled one day after filing, on undisclosed terms. | A settlement is not a public factual finding or, on the information reported, an admission. |
| Jane Doe complaint | The court denied anonymity and set a deadline to file under the plaintiff’s own name. | The order did not rule on the truth of the rape allegation. |
| Richard civil case | Most claims were dismissed as untimely; one allegation could be refiled in state court. | The limitations ruling did not determine whether the alleged conduct occurred. |
These distinctions matter because criminal prosecution and civil litigation answer different questions. A jury’s decision on charged offenses is not a ruling on every allegation in a separate lawsuit; likewise, a settlement or procedural dismissal is not a criminal verdict.
