Why did Layton Mills leave CannPal?
PerthNow reported that Mills tendered his resignation as chief executive of CannPal in September 2022 and would complete a six-month handover. The stated reason was “other business interests.” The February 2023 PerthNow story connected that earlier departure to his appearance on Married at First Sight with a joking suggestion that looking for love might count as another interest; it did not establish that finding a partner was the formal reason for his resignation. PerthNow’s February 2023 report also described CannPal as a company developing cannabis-based treatments for pets.

Mills’ departure followed a change in CannPal’s corporate history. PerthNow reported that AusCann acquired CannPal in a scrip deal in 2021, after which Mills held leadership roles in the combined business. The resignation came the following year, before his MAFS romance appeared on screen.

The relationship did not last. Nine later reported that Mills and Willis confirmed their split in October 2023. Their final-vows choice was a decision to keep trying after filming, not a guarantee that they would remain together.
What happened to CannPal after Mills left?
CannPal’s business story continued after Mills’ resignation. Business News Australia reported that in March 2023 AusCann divested a 52% stake in CannPal to Animal Health Holdings, a vehicle controlled by Mills and CannPal’s former research head. That report later described a commercial agreement announced by November 2024 with an unnamed “global top 10 animal health company.” The agreement included commercialisation rights for CannPal’s dermatology assets and an option covering CPAT-01 outside Australia and New Zealand. Business News Australia’s report describes development and commercialisation arrangements; it does not establish that those assets became approved products available to pet owners.

The latest specific CannPal milestone located in the cited coverage is from November 2024. That reporting does not confirm the unnamed partner’s identity, a consumer product launch, or the company’s operating status in 2026. Mills’ current roles are likewise not established by the available dated reports, so his later CannPal involvement should not be treated as confirmation of his present position.
