Episode 5’s two weddings set sharply different tones: Lauren Dunn’s arrival with groom Jonathan was late and unpredictable, while Andrea and Richard appeared to connect quickly. This recap follows the episode as described in Zach Margolius’s PerthNow coverage, published 5 February 2024; the dialogue and scene details below are attributed to that recap.
Lauren and Jonathan’s wedding begins in disarray
The episode opens with a contrast between the season’s older couple and Perth participant Lauren Dunn. Margolius describes Lauren as a 32-year-old PR and marketing professional and Jonathan as a health business owner seven years her senior.

According to the recap, producers woke Lauren, her limousine stalled more than once, and she forgot her bouquet. She arrived about 30 minutes late. Jonathan was portrayed as less bothered by the delay than members of his family.
A deliberately provocative ceremony
The recap presents Lauren’s wedding remarks as bold and teasing. She is quoted saying, “If I see a red flag, I come running for it,” and promising to make Jonathan “cry first.” At the reception, she teased Jonathan’s step-sister Stephanie about the contrast between her religious pendant and clothing. Jonathan, meanwhile, praised Lauren’s looks.

The honeymoon exposes a possible difference in temperament
At Mt French, Lauren and Jonathan played “f**k, marry, kill.” The recap says Lauren wondered whether Jonathan might be “too nice” for her. Its comic framing contrasts his cheese-and-crackers image with Lauren’s Sambuca and late-night “whopper” persona; that is the writer’s characterization, not evidence of how their relationship developed beyond the scenes covered.
Andrea and Richard hit it off
The other wedding brings together Andrea, 51, a photographer, and Richard, 62, a motorbike enthusiast and motivational speaker. Margolius describes them as Married At First Sight’s oldest-ever couple. Their children attended the wedding, and the recap depicts the pair as enthusiastic about one another from the start.

Andrea reportedly joked that since MAFS had ended her previous relationship, the show should find her a new man. Richard said they shared sensual kissing on their first night. The recap also describes an unplanned honeymoon encounter, which Richard summed up: “Spontaneous combustion,” he laughed. “It wasn’t discussed, it wasn’t planned. It just happened.”

As Margolius tells it, Lauren and Jonathan’s early scenes hinge on a chaotic entrance and teasing that hints at a mismatch in style, while Andrea and Richard’s focus on mutual attraction and ease. Those are first-episode impressions, not a verdict on either couple’s eventual outcome.
