The project later became Confessions II, released July 3, 2026, through Warner Records.
What Madonna said in December 2024
Madonna’s studio post named longtime collaborator Stuart Price and described their recent work as “medicine for my SOUL.” She wrote, “I’m so excited to share it with you. Who wants to hear new music in 2025!” The wording was an enthusiastic question, not confirmation that an album would arrive that year. Official Charts reproduced the Instagram caption and a separate X post reading “Confessions on a Dancefloor part 2”. Official Charts’ December 2024 report
How the tease became an album
September 2025: the collaboration confirmed
On September 18, 2025, Madonna’s official site announced her return to Warner Records and reunion with Price for a follow-up to Confessions on a Dance Floor, then describing the new dance album as expected in 2026. Madonna said she was “happy to be reunited” and looked forward to “making music, doing the unexpected while perhaps provoking a few needed conversations.” Madonna’s announcement
April 2026: the title and release date

The official album announcement listed vinyl, CD, and cassette formats. Official Charts records the album as released July 3, 2026, and gives it a No. 1 peak on the UK Official Albums Chart, with a first chart date of July 16, 2026. Official Charts album entry

Why Madonna returned to Stuart Price
In a later interview, Madonna said she contacted Price because she believed people needed to dance and proposed making Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II. She described visiting his London studio to find out whether there was creative “magic” between them, then choosing to keep developing the project. That is Madonna’s account of how the collaboration began. Interview Magazine’s conversation with Madonna
In the 2026 announcement, she framed the dance floor as more than a setting for music: “It’s a place where you connect — with your wounds, with your fragility. To rave is an art.” Her statement presented dancing, celebration, and shared physical experience as spiritual and communal practices. Madonna’s album announcement
