The 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place on Thursday, November 26, 2026. At home, the latest official announcement lists NBC and Peacock as the primary U.S. viewing options, with coverage beginning at 8:30 a.m. in all time zones, a same-day encore at 2 p.m. Eastern/Pacific time, and a Spanish-language simulcast on Telemundo.

In New York City, the parade follows a roughly 2.5-mile route from West 77th Street and Central Park West to Macy’s Herald Square. Choose your hotel according to the experience you want: an elevated indoor view around Columbus Circle or Sixth Avenue, street-level viewing near the Upper West Side, or a broader holiday itinerary based farther south in Midtown. Final 2026 viewing zones, security rules, street closures, balloon-inflation hours, and some broadcast details still need to be confirmed closer to Thanksgiving.

Why the 2026 parade is a milestone

Macy’s identifies the 2026 event as the parade’s 100th march. The tradition began in 1924, but the parade was canceled in 1942, 1943, and 1944 during World War II. That is why the numbered centennial occurs in 2026 rather than simply marking 100 calendar years since the first parade.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2026, which is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. Macy’s is already promoting the 100th celebration, and several New York hotels have begun advertising parade-view accommodations. Demand and room rates are likely to be unusually strong, but every offer, price, and minimum-stay condition should be checked directly before booking.

How to watch the 2026 parade from home

NBC and Peacock

The latest official Macy’s announcement says the national telecast will air on NBC and Peacock, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in all time zones. The announcement also lists a same-day encore at 2 p.m. Eastern/Pacific time.

For viewers who want the traditional broadcast presentation, NBC is the straightforward option where the network is available. Peacock is the streaming option identified in the announcement, but access can depend on the viewer’s subscription, territory, and the service’s current distribution arrangements. Check the 2026 NBC or Peacock program page shortly before Thanksgiving rather than relying on an old streaming schedule.

Spanish-language coverage

A Spanish-language simulcast is scheduled for Telemundo. Local availability can vary, so viewers should confirm the Telemundo listing for their market as the holiday approaches.

International viewers

Viewers outside the United States should not assume that Peacock or NBC will be available in the same form internationally. Streaming rights, local broadcasters, subscription requirements, and blackout rules can differ by country. Check the current service information for your location before making travel or viewing plans.

What has not been confirmed for 2026

A primetime “Countdown to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” special aired before the 2025 parade, but no official announcement confirming the same program for 2026 was found in the current research. It should therefore be treated as unconfirmed, not as part of the 2026 schedule. The host lineup, performer lineup, and complete 2026 broadcast page also remain subject to later announcements.

Watching in person: route, timing, and the best sections

The established parade route is approximately 2.5 miles long:

  1. Start: West 77th Street and Central Park West.
  2. South along Central Park West: The procession travels toward Columbus Circle.
  3. East along Central Park South: It passes the Columbus Circle area at West 59th Street.
  4. South on Sixth Avenue: The route continues through Midtown.
  5. Finish: The parade ends near Macy’s Herald Square at West 34th Street.

The parade’s televised performance area is near the Macy’s Herald Square flagship. That does not mean the entire route offers the same experience. The Upper West Side is generally the strongest choice for seeing the procession begin and for being near balloon and float staging activity. Sixth Avenue offers the most recognizable Midtown and television atmosphere. Herald Square is close to the finish and performance area, but it may have additional access controls.

Which viewing area fits your plan?

Area What it is best for Main disadvantages
Central Park West, roughly West 72nd–86th Streets Seeing the parade near its beginning; balloons and floats at street level; access to the Upper West Side and American Museum of Natural History Cold, exposed conditions; heavy crowds; early arrival; difficult vehicle access and potentially restricted crossings
Columbus Circle A major route transition and convenient access to Central Park South, Broadway, Eighth Avenue, and Midtown Very crowded and operationally constrained; a nearby hotel does not guarantee a public viewing position
Sixth Avenue Central Midtown access and the strongest sense of the televised parade environment Heavy security, street closures, crowded sidewalks, and difficult movement during the event
Herald Square The parade’s finish, Macy’s flagship, and the nearby holiday-shopping district Special controls may apply around the performance area; not every spectator will have unrestricted access

How early should you arrive?

For a front-row sidewalk position, practical parade-day guidance commonly points to arriving around 6 a.m. This is not an official 2026 arrival requirement, and the useful arrival time will depend on the final security plan, crowd levels, weather, and the section you choose.

The earliest route section on Central Park West is attractive because it gives spectators a chance to see the parade before it reaches the densest Midtown areas. It is also one of the least forgiving choices: you may spend several hours outdoors, and your position may be affected by barricades, police instructions, pedestrian flows, or restricted crossings.

Do ordinary spectators get reserved seats?

There is no general reserved-seat system for ordinary sidewalk viewing. Public viewing is managed by the NYPD and may involve bag inspection and restrictions on items that obstruct views or create safety problems. Based on recent city guidance, spectators should expect possible restrictions on large bags, umbrellas, chairs, coolers, strollers, bicycles, pets, alcohol, and similar items.

Those restrictions are a planning precedent, not a guarantee of the final 2026 policy. Check the official Macy’s and New York City/NYPD notices before leaving for the route. Do not bring an item merely because it was permitted at an earlier parade.

Balloon inflation on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving

Balloon inflation is traditionally one of the most popular pre-parade activities. Recent city guidance placed balloon inflation and related street restrictions on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, with activity around the Upper West Side and Central Park West. Macy’s historic public-viewing information has associated the event with the area near the American Museum of Natural History, while float assembly has also been visible along portions of Central Park West.

For 2026, treat the event as likely but not fully confirmed until Macy’s publishes visitor instructions. The access arrangements, viewing hours, capacity controls, security screening, and exact locations can change. Weather can also affect balloon decisions and operations.

There is an important difference between seeing an inflated balloon from a public street and entering a controlled staging area. Visitors should not assume that every part of the inflation or float-assembly zone will be open, that the hours will match a previous year, or that they can freely walk through the entire area.

Where to stay for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The right hotel depends less on the hotel’s general neighborhood label than on your viewing strategy. A property described as “near the parade” may be several blocks from the route, while a hotel on the route may have only a limited number of rooms with direct views.

Columbus Circle: best for a premium indoor view

Columbus Circle is where Central Park West, Central Park South, Broadway, and Eighth Avenue meet at West 59th Street. It is a useful location for both route access and elevated hotel viewing.

Mandarin Oriental, New York, at 80 Columbus Circle, is advertising a “Thanksgiving with a View” offer for the 100th parade. The hotel describes parade-viewing rooms and suites with elevated views. Its published terms specify a three-night minimum for parade-viewing rooms and one-bedroom suites, and a five-night minimum for parade-viewing two-bedroom suites, with the stay spanning November 25–27, 2026. Verify the exact rate, room category, cancellation terms, and remaining inventory directly with the hotel.

Best for: travelers who value warmth, bathrooms, an elevated view, and luxury hotel service.

Trade-off: a likely premium price, minimum-stay restrictions, and a more private experience than standing on the street.

Sixth Avenue and Midtown: best for route access and broadcast atmosphere

Sixth Avenue between approximately West 59th and West 34th Streets is the principal Midtown section of the route. The area is convenient for Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Central Park South, Broadway theaters, and Herald Square, but it is also among the most operationally restricted parts of the city on parade morning.

New York Hilton Midtown says it is directly on the route at Sixth Avenue between West 53rd and West 54th Streets and is accepting November 2026 parade bookings. Its current page advertises 2026 parade-view rooms and lists room categories, minimum stays, and displayed nightly rates. Those commercial terms can change and should not be treated as fixed price guidance. Ask whether the specific room faces Sixth Avenue and whether the view is direct, partial, or obstructed.

Best for: visitors who want a route-side Midtown hotel, central sightseeing access, or a possible indoor view of the Sixth Avenue section.

Trade-off: published room-view inventory has included five-night minimums and very high displayed rates. Being in the building does not mean every room has a parade view.

1 Hotel Central Park, at 1414 Sixth Avenue, is advertising a 2026 Thanksgiving Parade View offer with views from guest rooms. The hotel currently invites prospective guests to request information instead of publishing complete terms. The offer is therefore confirmed, but the price, minimum stay, eligible room categories, and precise view should be verified before booking.

Best for: travelers seeking a sustainability-oriented luxury hotel near the Central Park South/Sixth Avenue portion of the route.

Trade-off: the public offer page does not yet provide enough detail to promise a specific room view or booking condition.

Upper West Side near Central Park West: best for outdoor viewing and balloon activities

The Upper West Side around West 72nd through West 86th Streets is the most logical base for travelers who want to watch near the beginning of the route or attend balloon-inflation activities if they are offered again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The neighborhood also provides easy access to Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, and local restaurants. Its convenience is primarily pedestrian, however. Recent city closure guidance affected Central Park West from approximately West 72nd to West 86th Streets before Thanksgiving and through the afternoon. A nearby hotel can make it easier to walk to a viewing position, but it will not guarantee that you can cross barricades, take a taxi, or leave and re-enter the area whenever you wish.

Best for: families, first-time visitors, and travelers combining the parade with Central Park or the American Museum of Natural History.

Trade-off: outdoor viewing requires an early start, cold-weather preparation, and patience with crowds and street controls.

Herald Square, Bryant Park, or Times Square: best for a wider holiday trip

Staying farther south can make it easier to combine Thanksgiving weekend with Broadway, Rockefeller Center, holiday shopping, restaurants, and other Midtown attractions. The compromise is a weaker chance of having a private parade view. Do not describe a Times Square hotel as being “on the parade route” unless the property is actually on Sixth Avenue or has a documented viewing arrangement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A Herald Square hotel is convenient for the parade’s finish and Macy’s flagship, but access around the final performance area may be controlled. A hotel reservation alone does not provide admission to a restricted viewing zone.

How to book and plan the trip

  1. Choose indoor or outdoor viewing first. A room view gives you warmth, bathrooms, privacy, and the ability to watch the television coverage. Public viewing gives you the sound, scale, and street-level spectacle but is less predictable.
  2. Book refundable lodging early when possible. The 100th march is a strong demand signal, and some currently advertised parade-view offers already require multiple nights. Compare the rate with the cancellation deadline rather than choosing solely by headline price.
  3. Get the room orientation in writing. Ask whether the window faces Central Park West, Central Park South, or Sixth Avenue; whether the view is direct or angled; whether another building blocks part of the route; and whether the room category is guaranteed.
  4. Read the minimum-stay and package terms carefully. Confirm the exact nights, taxes and fees, breakfast or other inclusions, cancellation rules, and whether “parade view” refers to the room itself or a separate hotel viewing area.
  5. Plan to travel on foot and by subway. Recent NYPD guidance warned of heavy traffic, limited parking, street closures, and bus diversions. Driving, taxis, and rideshares may be impractical near the route. Check the MTA and NYPD closer to the event for final service changes and crossing instructions.
  6. Do not assume that a hotel solves parade-day movement. Barricades, inspections, one-way pedestrian flows, and restricted crossings may affect whether guests can leave the area and return. Ask the hotel how guests should enter and exit during the event.
  7. Pack for cold and waiting. Wear warm layers and comfortable closed-toe shoes. Bring only what the final prohibited-items list allows. If you will be outdoors for several hours, a portable phone charger can help keep your phone available for maps, transit updates, communication, and photos; it is a general travel convenience, not an item specifically recommended by Macy’s or the NYPD.
  8. Build flexibility into Thanksgiving Day. Allow extra time for security, crowded sidewalks, subway delays, and changing pedestrian routes. Do not schedule a tightly timed cross-town reservation immediately after the parade.

Three practical planning strategies

For a luxury indoor weekend

Stay near Columbus Circle or Sixth Avenue, confirm a direct route-facing room, and treat the hotel view as the main event. On Wednesday, attend balloon inflation only if the official 2026 instructions make the location and access clear. On Thursday morning, watch the street from the room while keeping NBC or Peacock available for the broadcast presentation.

For the strongest street-level experience

Stay within walking distance of Central Park West, arrive well before the 8:30 a.m. start, and bring clothing suitable for prolonged outdoor exposure. Choose the Upper West Side if balloons and the opening section matter more to you than the televised performance area. Have a backup plan in case the preferred block is full or access is restricted.

For a broader New York holiday itinerary

Stay near Bryant Park, Times Square, or Herald Square and treat the parade as one part of the weekend. You may need to walk to a public viewing section early, but the location can be more convenient for Broadway, holiday attractions, dining, and shopping after street operations return to normal.

What to recheck before traveling

The following details were not all available in final 2026 form during the research for this guide:

  • The official public-viewing map and any designated viewing zones.
  • Pedestrian crossings, barricade layouts, bag inspections, and prohibited items.
  • The final NYPD street-closure and traffic-diversion notice.
  • Balloon-inflation hours, access procedures, capacity limits, and exact locations.
  • The 2026 performer and host lineup.
  • The detailed NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo program pages.
  • Hotel rates, room inventory, minimum stays, package inclusions, and cancellation policies.
  • Weather-related changes to balloons or parade operations.

Make an initial lodging decision as early as practical, then update the operational details in October or November 2026 and perform a final check during parade week. Prices, availability, streaming rights, security rules, transit diversions, and hotel offers are all volatile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 2026 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade really the centennial?

Yes, it is the parade’s 100th numbered march. Macy’s says the tradition began in 1924, but the parade did not take place in 1942, 1943, or 1944 because of World War II. The 100th march therefore occurs in 2026.

What time does the 2026 parade start on television?

The latest official announcement lists NBC and Peacock coverage beginning at 8:30 a.m. in all time zones. It also lists a same-day encore at 2 p.m. Eastern/Pacific time. Confirm the schedule again closer to Thanksgiving because broadcast details can change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where is the best place to watch the parade in person?

Central Park West near the beginning of the route is generally best for seeing balloons and floats at street level. Sixth Avenue offers a more central, televised-Midtown atmosphere, while Herald Square is closest to the finish and performance area. None of these choices guarantees a reserved position.

Can I reserve a sidewalk seat for the Macy’s parade?

There is no general reserved-seat system for ordinary sidewalk viewing. Public access is managed by the NYPD and may involve inspections, barricades, restricted crossings, and limits on large or obstructive items.

Is balloon inflation confirmed for the day before the 2026 parade?

Balloon inflation is likely based on recent practice and city guidance, with activity historically associated with the Upper West Side near the American Museum of Natural History. However, the 2026 hours, access rules, capacity, and exact locations should be considered unconfirmed until Macy’s publishes its visitor instructions.

The Bottom Line

For the simplest indoor experience, look at Columbus Circle or a verified Sixth Avenue parade-view room. For the most immersive public experience, stay near Central Park West, arrive very early, and prepare for cold weather, crowds, inspections, and restricted movement. At home, the latest announced plan is NBC and Peacock at 8:30 a.m., with Telemundo providing Spanish-language coverage. Recheck official Macy’s, NBC, MTA, and NYPD information before Thanksgiving because the final 2026 operating details are not yet complete.
