What happened to Lynn Ban?
Ban was injured in a skiing accident in Aspen, Colorado, on Christmas Eve 2024. CNA reported that Ban described the fall and later recounted receiving a scan at the hospital that revealed a brain bleed. She underwent emergency brain surgery. The Associated Press and CNA reported that she died weeks after the accident and surgery, on January 20, 2025.
Her son, Sebastian Ban, announced her death on her verified Instagram account on January 22. The Associated Press quoted his tribute: “She was and always will be my best friend, the best mother to me, and someone who cared for all.” The reports establish this sequence of events; they do not establish a more specific formal cause of death.
How old was Lynn Ban?
Published reports disagree. The Associated Press and CNA gave her age as 51; JCK reported 52. The available accounts do not resolve the discrepancy, so neither age should be treated as uncontested.

What was Lynn Ban known for as a jewelry designer?
Ban was born in Singapore and moved to New York at age four, according to the Associated Press and JCK. She built a career in fashion and jewelry, with designs recognized for bold, sculptural statement pieces.
From vintage jewelry to her namesake collection
JCK reports that Ban launched Lynn Ban Vintage at Barneys New York in 2002. She began her namesake jewelry line in 2011, a date also reported by Vogue. The Associated Press, citing Ban’s online biography, said she had spent more than 25 years in fashion.

Vogue highlighted lightning-bolt earrings, sculptural rings and cuffs, including an articulated ring that extended across the finger toward the nail. Rihanna wore Ban’s jewelry and commissioned a collaboration for Fenty x Puma; Ban’s work also appeared in Beyoncé’s visual-album looks and other celebrity styling.
