Según su relato, al principio su rostro parecía estar bien; cerca de un año después notó bolitas y dolor. Autoridades sanitarias mexicanas advierten que inyectar sustancias no autorizadas para fines estéticos puede causar daños locales graves y, en algunos casos, complicaciones sistémicas. Las entrevistas citadas no son expedientes médicos: no confirman qué sustancia recibió Lyn May ni permiten establecer un diagnóstico.
Qué contó Lyn May sobre la inyección
En una entrevista con Gustavo Adolfo Infante para El Minuto que cambió mi destino sin censura, cuya cobertura publicó People en Español el 3 de junio de 2024, Lyn May recordó que dos mujeres le sugirieron agrandarse un poco los pómulos y ponerse algo en la barbilla. Dijo que aceptó que le inyectaran aceite. Según el artículo, describió que al principio estaba bien, pero que alrededor de un año después le aparecieron bolitas en el rostro y sintió dolor fuerte.
People en Español informó también que Lyn May llamó a la sustancia “aceite para la gripe”. Relató que sufrió mucho, que llegó a no querer mirarse al espejo y que durante un periodo se encerró. Dijo que fue retirando el aceite poco a poco y que todavía a los 71 años seguía haciéndolo. Son declaraciones personales recogidas por ese medio, no un diagnóstico psicológico ni una historia clínica publicada.
En una entrevista difundida el 3 de agosto de 2026, Telemundo atribuyó a Lyn May esta frase: “A mí me inyectaron aceite de cocinar”. Las dos expresiones —“aceite para la gripe” y “aceite de cocinar”— corresponden a entrevistas distintas; ninguna de esas coberturas presenta una prueba que identifique químicamente el producto. La información disponible tampoco establece cuál es su tratamiento actual.

Qué daños pueden causar las inyecciones de sustancias no autorizadas
La Secretaría de Salud de México advirtió en 2017 que introducir sustancias no autorizadas para uso médico con fines estéticos puede provocar enfermedad por modelantes. Entre las sustancias empleadas mencionó aceites minerales y comestibles, silicón industrial y biopolímeros. No son alternativas cosméticas intercambiables: la fuente describe riesgos asociados a materiales usados para modelar o rellenar tejidos sin autorización médica.
El comunicado de la Secretaría enumeró daños locales como cicatrización de los tejidos, fibrosis, isquemia —falta de riego sanguíneo adecuado—, engrosamiento y cambios de color o textura de la piel, granulomas, abscesos y úlceras. También advirtió que puede haber inflamación sistémica y daño de órganos. Estas son advertencias generales sobre la práctica, no hallazgos clínicos confirmados en Lyn May. La explicación oficial está en el comunicado de la Secretaría de Salud del 5 de mayo de 2017.

Las complicaciones pueden aparecer tiempo después
El IMSS informó en julio de 2025 que síntomas de complicaciones por inyecciones de adyuvantes con aceite mineral pueden manifestarse entre cinco y diez años después. Entre los síntomas mencionados figuran fatiga, cefalea, fiebre, problemas de sueño o memoria y dolores musculares o articulares. El organismo también señaló que en algunos casos se reportan enfermedades autoinmunes y complicaciones renales. Ese intervalo no predice cuándo enfermará una persona concreta, y la fuente no afirma que todas las personas expuestas desarrollen una enfermedad autoinmune. El IMSS describe seguimiento médico con participación de varias especialidades en su nota del 7 de julio de 2025.
Qué muestran las cifras oficiales y qué no
Las cifras publicadas sirven para dimensionar la atención en instituciones concretas, pero no indican la probabilidad individual de sufrir una complicación ni representan un conteo nacional.

Qué hacer si hubo una inyección de aceite
Si una persona recibió una inyección de aceite u otra sustancia de relleno no autorizada, o tiene síntomas tras ese procedimiento, la orientación de las fuentes oficiales es buscar valoración de profesionales de salud. El IMSS describe atención con seguimiento médico y participación de varias especialidades; la información citada no respalda automedicarse, intentar extraer el material en casa ni usar productos de consumo como tratamiento. Una evaluación profesional es necesaria para valorar cada caso.
La Secretaría de Salud ha descrito daños vinculados con estas sustancias y la COFEPRIS advierte sobre sustancias modelantes de alto riesgo; puede consultarse su página de alertas sanitarias. La evidencia general sobre riesgos no permite diagnosticar a Lyn May ni confirmar qué material recibió.
