The original Latino World Order’s best moments are its formation, Eddie Guerrero’s recruitment drive, Rey Mysterio’s reluctant turn, and the faction’s defiant breakup. This ranked list is an editorial judgment—not an official WCW or WWE ranking—and weighs storyline importance, faction identity, in-ring stakes, and lasting influence. WWE dates Guerrero’s formation segment to Nitro on October 5, 1998.
How the original LWO story fits together
The LWO was a WCW faction led by Eddie Guerrero, introduced while the New World Order’s influence still shaped the promotion’s faction stories. WWE’s history says Monday Nitro led Raw in ratings for 84 consecutive weeks between May 1996 and March 1998; that figure describes the broader WCW era, not the LWO’s popularity or performance. The nWo later split into Hollywood and Wolfpac, with Konnan joining the Wolfpac. The LWO borrowed the “world order” framing but gave it a distinct Latino identity.
The ranking below follows the story from formation and recruitment through resistance, disbandment, and aftermath. Episode-by-episode details are documented in secondary histories; the formation date is preserved in WWE’s official archive.
The 10 best LWO moments
-
Eddie Guerrero forms the LWO
On Nitro on October 5, 1998, Guerrero introduced the faction that would define the story. This is the essential starting point: the LWO had a leader, a name, and a place in WCW’s faction landscape. WWE’s archive preserves the formation segment.

The “world order” idea becomes a Latino faction identity
The name echoed the nWo’s “world order” concept, but the LWO’s identity centered on Latino wrestlers and Guerrero’s leadership. That parallel made the group legible within WCW’s ongoing faction conflict while giving it its own allegiance and membership story. WWE’s nWo history provides context for the broader faction backdrop.
-
The group grows around WCW’s Mexican wrestlers
The recruitment of wrestlers including Psychosis, La Parka, Héctor Garza, and Juventud Guerrera gave the LWO a recognizable roster rather than leaving it as a name attached only to Guerrero. Its membership helped make the faction’s identity visible across the roster. The faction history lists these members.
-
Guerrero brings Rey Mysterio into the story
Guerrero’s campaign to recruit Mysterio raised the stakes beyond adding another member: Mysterio became the central figure in a question of allegiance. The story gained tension because he did not simply join at the outset.
Rank #2
-
Mysterio resists joining
Mysterio’s reluctance gave the recruitment angle a clear point of conflict. Rather than treating the LWO as an uncomplicated alliance, the story made his independence—and Guerrero’s effort to win him over—a continuing thread.

Mysterio wears LWO colors after losing to Guerrero
After losing to Guerrero, Mysterio became a member and wore the group’s colors. The change marked a turn in their relationship: the wrestler who had resisted the faction was now visibly part of it. The significance lies in the path to that allegiance, not in implying that he chose it freely from the beginning.
-
The reunited nWo demands that the LWO disband
The nWo’s order to disband transformed the faction’s identity into a direct confrontation. The LWO was no longer only recruiting and defining its membership; it had to decide what that allegiance meant under pressure.

Mysterio refuses to remove the LWO colors
When the LWO was ordered to break up, Mysterio refused to take off his colors while the others complied. That choice gave his arc a memorable reversal: he had once resisted joining, but now stood by the faction when its future was in question. WWE’s Rey Mysterio profile accompanies the secondary storyline account.
-
Mysterio and Konnan meet the Outsiders at SuperBrawl IX
The conflict culminated in a Hair vs. Mask match: Mysterio and Konnan faced Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, the Outsiders. Mysterio and Konnan lost, and Mysterio had to remove his mask. It is the LWO story’s most consequential in-ring endpoint, with a personal cost that extended beyond the faction’s breakup. WWE’s Mysterio profile is a reference for the match’s outcome.

The LWO story gives way to the Filthy Animals
The faction’s coda came as key LWO members, including Guerrero and Mysterio, later joined Konnan in the Filthy Animals. It connects the LWO period to what came next for those performers, even as the original group’s storyline concluded. The LWO history documents the transition.
The matches remembered alongside the storyline
Konnan recalled that Rey Mysterio vs. Dean Malenko received a backstage standing ovation, and that the only other time he saw that happen during his four years in WCW was after Eddie Guerrero wrestled Mysterio at Halloween Havoc in Las Vegas. This is Konnan’s recollection of backstage reactions, not a measured poll or proof of a company-wide custom. His account appears in WWE’s interview, “Hacking into the mystery of Max Moon with the legendary Konnan.”
What makes these moments stand out
The LWO’s clearest throughline is allegiance: Guerrero creates the group, Mysterio resists and then joins, and the breakup tests whether its colors still mean something. The story’s closing conflict with the nWo gives that arc a concrete end, while the SuperBrawl IX loss makes the ending carry a lasting consequence for Mysterio. The list is a retrospective ranking of documented storyline beats, not an official or statistically measured top ten.
