Who are Luton Town’s famous celebrity supporters? David James has said he supported the club as a child. Broadcaster Nick Owen has the strongest documented public profile as a Luton celebrity fan, while the late Eric Morecambe and singer Cerys Matthews also appear in reporting and supporter lists. There is no verified ranking of the club’s “four most famous” supporters, so the names below are presented by the strength and nature of the available evidence—not as an official top four.
1. David James: the former England goalkeeper who supported Luton as a child
Former England goalkeeper David James has spoken directly about his connection to the club. In an interview with The Big Issue, he said: “I was a Luton Town supporter.” The statement establishes childhood support; it does not, by itself, show that he remains an active supporter today.
2. Nick Owen: a prominent public connection to the club
BBC Sport describes broadcaster Nick Owen as Luton Town’s leading celebrity supporter, saying he took over that mantle from the late Eric Morecambe. That is the BBC’s characterization, not an official club ranking.
Owen’s connection also appears in Guardian reporting from 2008. One report described him as a lifelong supporter and identified him at that time as president of the Luton Town Supporters’ Association. A separate report documented his involvement in a consortium seeking to buy the financially troubled club. These are substantial historical links, but the 2008 role and consortium involvement should not be read as claims about his current position.

3. Eric Morecambe: the late comedian remembered as a Luton fan
BBC Sport identifies comedian Eric Morecambe as the celebrity supporter whose mantle Nick Owen took over. That makes Morecambe part of the club’s public supporter story, although the sources cited here do not provide further detail about his fandom.
4. Cerys Matthews: named in supporter lists, without a definitive ranking
Singer and broadcaster Cerys Matthews appears in secondary lists of celebrity football supporters and in a football Q&A’s hypothetical selection of celebrity Luton representatives. This supports including her among reported celebrity supporters, but it is weaker evidence than a direct statement or long-term involvement documented by independent reporting.

Why this is not an objective top four
“Most famous” has no agreed measure here: the sources do not offer a poll, ranking, or official club list, and they do not establish which four names the title’s wording intends. Other names in a hypothetical football Q&A include John Hegley, Monty Panesar, Alastair Cook and Niky Wardley. Their inclusion in that exercise does not establish a definitive ranking or prove a level of support comparable to the better-documented cases above.
The clearest way to understand the list is by evidence type: James’s first-person account confirms childhood support; Owen has independent reporting of long-term support and historical club involvement; Morecambe is identified by BBC Sport as a prominent predecessor; and Matthews is present in secondary and hypothetical lists. Those distinctions matter more than an unsupported claim that these are objectively the four best-known fans.
